For digital assets, OTC (an acronym for Over-the-Counter) transactions have had an increasing impact on digital asset markets, taking a large chunk of trading volumes away from liquidity-limited exchanges. Used in both major financial markets and cryptocurrency markets, it is well known that OTC trading involves high-volume transactions directly between two parties, without the need for an exchange. Even some cryptocurrency ATMs can fall under the umbrella of OTC operations, since those transactions are not always settled through an exchange.
In traditional financial markets, trading in securities that are not officially listed on a centralized exchange is facilitated by using an OTC broker. Securities traded over the OTC are generally smaller companies that cannot meet the listing requirements for a formal exchange. Stocks that are not listed on an exchange, but traded over the counter, are generally referred to as over-the-counter equities or OTC stocks.

Over-the-counter (OTC) securities are traded directly between counterparties and are not publicly traded. OTC is yet another way to trade stocks, bonds, derivatives, and currencies, in both cryptocurrency and fiat markets. Trading over-the-counter is a must for high-volume cryptocurrency players, like funds and big miners, because an OTC desk helps them buy and sell in bulk without attracting attention. Cryptocurrency trading desks with over-the-counter exchanges serve traders looking to make high-volume transactions that would not be suitable on exchanges. Fortunately, many of the major cryptocurrency exchanges offer OTC desks, which allow large amounts of cryptocurrency to be traded without major hassle.
Although these figures are just an example, some of the sources that I have consulted state that OTC transactions represent approximately 20% of bitcoins with an average of 26 billion dollars traded each day, which represents approximately 76% of the market. of digital assets as the illiquidity of crypto exchanges forces many large traders to seek exit and entry positions through OTC desks to avoid splashing out. Not only does over-the-counter digital asset trading represent substantially larger volumes than OTC stock trading, but its anonymity allows higher net worth investors to pursue investments in digital assets without their orders being made public, unless otherwise make public themselves. Trading on OTC exchanges effectively accounts for as much trade volume as on major crypto exchanges, but since OTC platforms are doing an excellent job of protecting customer privacy, exact volumes are unknown.

Private traders often favor OTC trading because it typically involves larger transactions and offers greater flexibility and better prices than stock exchanges can offer. Simply put, if you want to avoid buying, trading, or selling cryptocurrencies through major, highly-regulated exchanges, you can opt for OTC trading, which offers confidentiality, higher trading limits, and an escape from market fluctuations.
In conclusion, the OTC market is another way, which allows buyers and sellers to exchange directly or through an intermediary.
