“Success in creating artificial intelligence would be the biggest event in human history. Unfortunately, it could also be the last, unless we learn to avoid risks” | Stephen Hawking
There is wide variation in the opinions of artificially intelligent systems on the speed at which they can outperform humans among artificial intelligence experts. Artificial neural networks and deep learning AI technologies are rapidly evolving, in large part because AI processes vast amounts of data far more rapidly and makes predictions far more accurate than humans can. AI allows computers and machines to emulate the perceptual, learning, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities of human minds. A subset of AI is machine learning, which refers to the concept that computer programs can learn automatically and adapt to new data without the assistance of humans.

“The development of full artificial intelligence that could spell the end of the human race would take off on its own, and it would re-engineer itself at an ever-increasing rate. Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, could not compete, and would be replaced” | Stephen Hawking
The term artificial intelligence is used to describe these functions of human-made tools which mimic the cognitive abilities of natural human mental intelligence. Strong AI, also known as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), describes programs capable of replicating the cognitive abilities of human brains. A novel development in a long-term goal for many researchers is the creation of a strong artificial intelligence, or Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), that is, speculative machine intelligence with the capability of understanding or learning every intellectually demanding task a human being could, thereby helping humans solve problems they encounter. Some researchers differentiate between narrow AI--computer systems which are better than humans at certain particular, clearly defined fields, such as playing chess, generating images, or diagnosing cancer--and general AI--systems that are capable of outperforming humans at a number of fields.
“What we all have to do is make sure that we are using artificial intelligence in a way that is to the benefit of humanity, not to the detriment of humanity” | Tim Cook

If there were to be artificially intelligent systems with general intelligence capable of being used in a broad set of problems and challenging goals, these artificially intelligent machines likely would have an entirely different profile of intelligence, including other cognitive qualities, from what humans possess (Goertzel, 2007). General AI is more similar to what you see in science fiction movies, in which intelligent machines mimic human intelligence, thinking strategically, abstractly, and creatively, and being capable of handling a wide range of complex tasks. Perhaps this is because AI is designed to build machines with one trait central to the way we humans think about ourselves, which is to say, being able to feel, think, and think, intelligent creatures. The more AI is trained and precise about actual human characteristics and thought processes, the more we will be able to use AI as an enabler for cutting-edge technologies, and to interact with programs in more human-like ways, where you are talking with an AI rather than an actual person.
“Ultimately, artificial intelligences will dematerialize, demonetize and democratize all of these services, drastically improving the quality of life for 8 billion people, pushing us closer to a world of abundance” | Peter Diamandis
The paper shows that when AI models are given tools to think in ways that are similar to humans, they will generate more of their own common sense. [https://viterbischool.usc.edu/news/2022/06/isi-researchers-train-artificial-intelligence-models-to-consider-common-sense-when-generating-responses]

“I'm more and more inclined to think that there should be some regulatory oversight, maybe nationally and internationally, just to make sure we don't do something too foolish. I mean, with artificial intelligence we are summoning the devil” | Elon Musk
Experts spoke about a broad spectrum of possibilities; computers could equal, and perhaps even surpass, human intelligence and capabilities in tasks like making difficult decisions, reasoning, and learning, complex analysis and pattern recognition, visual acuity, speech recognition, and language translation. Networked AI, experts predicted, would augment human performance, yet it would also threaten human autonomy, agency, and capabilities. In short, artificial intelligence is an intelligence designed by humans, demonstrated by machines. AI systems can encompass everything from the expert system--a problem-solving app that makes decisions based on complicated rules or if/then logic--to something resembling the equivalent of the Pixar character Wall-E, a computer that evolves human-like intelligence, free will, and emotions.
“By far the biggest danger of artificial intelligence is that people conclude too soon for them to understand it” | Eliezer Yudkowski
