Lanthanum is the chemical element of atomic number 57 and its symbol is La.
Lanthanum is a light, metallic, silver-white, malleable and ductile element: it is also very soft, so much so that it can be cut with a knife.
The chemical element lanthanum was discovered by Swedish Carl Gustav Mosander in 1839, when he partially decomposed a sample of cerium nitrate by heating it and treating the resulting salt with dilute nitric acid. From the resulting solution he isolated a new rare earth which he named lanthanum. Lanthanum was isolated in a relatively pure form in 1923.
Lanthanum has a low to moderate toxicity and should be handled with care. In animals, the injection of lanthanum solutions causes an increase in blood glucose, a lowering of blood pressure, degeneration of the spleen and liver damage.
Main uses of lanthanum
- Carbon lighting, especially in the film industry for lighting theatres and film projection.
- Lanthanum oxide (La2O3) improves the resistance of glass to alkali attack and is used in the manufacture of special optical glass, such as:
- Glass that absorbs infrared radiation.
- Lenses for spectacles, cameras and telescopes, due to the high refractive index and low dispersion of rare earth glass.
- Small amounts of lanthanum added to steel improve its malleability, ductility and resilience.
- Mischmetal, a pyrophoric alloy used for example in lighter stones, contains 25% to 45% lanthanum.
- Oxide and boride are used in valves in electronics.
- mantles for gas lanterns.
- Compounds for polishing glass and marble.
The giveaway
In a crypto market where volatility is very high these days, we want to provide continuity with a new element of the periodic table.
Lanthanum is the first element of group 3. This is why the giveaway will be for everyone (or almost everyone).
The max supply is set at 299 elements and to receive a free element just comment on this article with a WAX address. There are 200 NFTs available for distribution. In case the number of comments is higher, we will proceed with a random draw. Comments must be entered by 16:00 on 31 January. (1 user - 1 wallet - 1 NFT)
The NFTs of the giveaway for the elements Cesium and Barium will be distributed in the coming days.
The Periodic Table NFT project
The Periodic Table NFT project aims to raise awareness of chemical elements in a modern key, basing the approach on blockchain and Non Fungible Token.
Day after day it will be possible to know the single elements that make up the table, to collect curiosities about each of them and about the table in general.
We are working to be able to learn, in a playful way, also what happens by combining the various elements.
The whole project is based on the collection of NFTs that can be bought on the site https://wax.atomichub.io/market?collection_name=periodicelem&order=desc&sort=created&symbol=WAX or by participating in simple giveaways published on publish0x.
