Keeping an eye on the financial markets today as well as precious metals. It's topsy turvy time, it appears.

The US dollar is losing steam today, dropping to 108.25 from a high of 110.251 reached on September 6 as we await the latest CPI print in the USA. The high dollar has hammered other currencies that are included in the 'world reserve basket' including the Pound Sterling, which tanked to a 36 year low against the dollar last week to levels not seen since 1985 as well as the Japanese Yen which sank to levels not seen since the 90s. Let's not forget the Euro which fell below par to levels not seen since its introduction, also back in the 90s.

The Reserve Basket isn't doing too well and the USD has often been referred to as 'the cleanest shirt in the laundry basket'. Maybe that's what the reserve basket should be called from now on... 'the laundry basket'. All the currencies have gone down except the USD but how long can that last?

Silver is outperforming gold this morning, as shown in the charts below, coutesy of Kitco.com. When the dollar goes lower, you can expect precious metals to go higher. This is a nice $1+ increase since markets came back online yesterday evening.

Gold also increased but percentage wise, the increase is less than silver's. Incidentally, oil is up 2% today.

Next up is the coming Fed FOMC meeting on September 22 and 23. Will they or won't they raise interest rates and if they do, by how much? Will they go for higher rates to quell inflation or back flip to try and save the markets as they did in 2018? We'll find out in a couple of weeks.
