Quantum Computing Updates Q224
Well Q2 was much quieter, than Q1 in terms of news and Quantum break throughs. Not downplaying the significance of any of the items below:
D-WAVE IS STILL MAKING THE CASE FOR ANNEALING QUANTUM COMPUTING - June 18 '24
For 20-years D-WAVE has been zigging while IBM, Amazon, Microsoft and Google are zagging. Allowing it to offer the first commercial quantum computer in 2021. Next up for them is a 4,800 Qubit Advantage2 QPU.
Researcher Finds Side-Channel Vulnerability in Post-Quantum Key Encapsulation Mechanism (KEM) - June 4th '24
File this in the Dooh! category as secure code can be undone just by running it through a compiler. Well, not too Quantum secure at this point!
Quantum Job / Hiring remains very light thru 1st half 24 - June 13 '24
Public postings for Quantum Technology jobs decreased by 16.9% compared to the number of new jobs in April.
D-Wave Introduces New Hybrid Quantum Solver For Workforce, Manufacturing And Logistics Optimization Problems - June 17 '24
While everyone is worried about AI taking their job they should be proactive and learn how Quantum workforce automation can help them get and stay ahead!
London Underground hosts tests for ‘quantum compass’ that could replace GPS - June 15 '24
This device aka considered a subatomic instrument will be able to accurately pinpoint locations under ground and under water, where satellite signals are often blocked. I would like US Dept. of Defense would be all over this offering considering how cloud cover, fog and dense smoke impact GPS operations.

Summary
Optimization remains the forefront problem for quantum computing to address and tiny steps of progress are taking place. I look for D-WAVE to provide a full suite of quantum technologies to solve customer problems via annealing and gate-model quantum computing and whatever they unlock next!
