It's time for another installment of Quantum Computing Updates this one for Q223
Investment houses partner up with Microsoft and Nvidia
Their Quantum creation is called H2 and has 32 qubits laid out on a racetrack, which leverages trapped ions as the foundation of its qubits. Current plans are to expand the computer to 50 qubits. Not sure when it will be ready to predict the next bull or bear market, however, they are investing in the technology today!
Quantum Decryption Brought Closer by Topological Qubits - expected to go Live on Azure Quantum June '23
Quantinuum’s has demonstrated the controlled creation and manipulation of non-Abelian anyons – or, put more simply, brought the arrival of large-scale, error resistant quantum computers much closer. Who is ready for the 4th industrial revolution?
Einstein was wrong about Quantum
A experiment linked qubits using a super cold wire over 30 meters which involves using low-energy microwave photons, which are easily lost in a sea of environmental noise. However, due to the testing success and the performance of the qubits, the researchers performed over a million individual trials in only 20 minutes
IBM goes big on quantum-computer hardware and software
- Error Mitigation for greater quantum performance - Today's quantum systems are inherently noisy and they produce a significant number of errors that hamper performance. IBM showed by mitigating errors, a quantum computer was able to outperform leading classical computer.
- IBM Osprey is 433 Qubit machine and is identifying use cases for enterprise customers. Additionally, IBM reaffirmed plan to have a 1,121-qubit processor known as Condor, out in 2025.
Summary - with improvements in qubits, error mitigation, computing at distances quantum computing is really firming up. I wonder how many silly business quotes we can expect in the next few years about not needing quantum computing at home or in your hand!
