I just wanted to share some quick news that the CPI print has just been released. Gold shot to $1,805 this morning after U.S. consumer price inflation numbers came in lower than expected. After 16 months of steady price inflation, this morning's CPI print effectively ended this 16 month streak. While a drop from 9.1% to 8.7% was expected, CPI came in at 8.5%. Core Price Index also dropped from 6.1% to 5.9%. 

Two of the biggest drivers were a reduction in fuel oil and gasoline, down 11% and 7.7% respectively, giving consumers a 'little' break at the pumps but we're still paying a lot more. Gas prices in Ontario, Canada where I live are averaging $1.67 a litre after hitting $2 a little more than a month ago. Just a year ago, gas prices averaged $1 a litre, give or take a few pennies.
