Roger Ver, born in 1979, is an early investor and proponent of Bitcoin (BTC). Ver started investing in Bitcoin in early 2011 and quickly began supporting Bitcoin-related startups and promoting the adoption of Bitcoin. His overwhelming support for Bitcoin birthed him the name “Bitcoin Jesus” and he has played a role in Bitcoin’s adoption ever since.
After investing in Bitcoin, Ver made his first Bitcoin-related investment in Charlie Shrem’s cryptocurrency exchange, Bitinstant. Following this investment, Ver invested over $1 million in other Bitcoin-related startups including Ripple, Blockchain.info, Bitpay and Kraken. Apart from Ver’s investments, he also became one of five founders of the Bitcoin Foundation and has spoken at numerous Bitcoin conferences and hosted many Bitcoin meetups.
Ver played a significant role in the spreading of awareness and adoption of Bitcoin (BTC) up until the summer of 2017, where he then expressed concerns about Bitcoin’s future as a viable currency. He didn’t agree with the direction it was going in and believed that Bitcoin’s block size limit should be increased. Therefore he aligned his opinions with a minority of crypto developers and pushed for an increase to the block size limit. Ver believed this would allow Bitcoin to be used as a viable currency used to pay for goods and services while reducing fees. To fulfill this vision, Ver and some crypto developers forked Bitcoin (BTC) to create Bitcoin Cash (BCH), in which he stands behind and supports to this day.
Since Ver created Bitcoin Cash, he has become a controversial figure in the crypto space, claiming Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is the real Bitcoin (BTC). He even owns the website Bitcoin.com, which he uses to support Bitcoin Cash and dupe investors into buying Bitcoin Cash.
