Yearn.Finance made history as the first legitimate altcoin to surpass bitcoin in value. It needed an ultra low count to do so (30,000 max vs. 21 million), but it did achieve this. Now $DIGG, the rebase token from the Badger project, is knocking on the door of $100,000.
Like YFI, $DIGG is ultra low cap. It was also started as a free airdrop like the YFI governance token. (That's certainly a good way to bring more attention to a project!) The price is supposed to mirror 1 BTC, but like many rebase tokens, initial hype for the project pushed the price far above that peg.
[BIg note: If past rebase tokens are any indication, you can fully expect the $DIGG token to return to its 1 BTC = 1 DIGG peg at some point very soon. If you didn't get the airdrop, this is not a token to buy on the open market.]
So yes, $DIGG is sort of a gimmick that is benefitting from the hype in the general marketplace as well. Once people saw that $DIGG could possibly get to six digits, there was likely an undercurrent that was going to push for it. The coin as an investment has yet to prove itself, although you can farm for it using Badger and other assets if you want to play the long game.
