Recovering my Locked Horizen Funds using AI

Introduction

In my previous article "My BIG Horizen DeadLock" i described the deadlock which I was found recovering my fotgottent ZEN funds from the legacy MyZenWallet.io Wallet. And that time, I was certain I used all the available possibilities to recover them. However after a sleepless Summer Daylight Saving-Standard Winter Time Switch night, I came with the bright idea to prompt an AI Agent and specifically ChatGPT Free tier GPT-5.6 Luna model (since I never pay for an AI subscription), to test its capabilities whether it can find a solution to my situation. After trying everything, that was my last hope...

In discussion with ChatGPT about recovering my $ZEN Funds

After explaining "The Problem" to ChatGPT Free tier GPT-5.6 Luna model as it was described in my article "My BIG Horizen DeadLock", I prompted a very simple question, as follows:

Can you find a solution about recovering my myzenwallet.io funds ?

And from the very first thorough and optimistic reply where ChatGPT simply analysed the current situation, I genuinely hoped that ChatGPT could guide me to a solution.

d6b700e4e889a6b5281992d72391630fe565f5571a9b4f6d3f2e831d00a96c73.jpg

An important statement from ChatGPT was to advise me to refrain myself from using any untrusted service that would appear willing to help me, manipulating me that they can genuinely HELP me find a solution as long as I would send them firstly more funds that would help me create a wallet where my recovered funds will also be sent. Unfortunately, this is a dark path that I have taken in the past after falling into a Bitcoin scam and an individual on Reddit was willing to help me if I would sent him first more funds as a ransom. And as a result, I was scammed twice. Once from the scammed website and another time from the individual who was willing to help me recover these funds. And i am talking about Bitcoin funds that today would have been estimated with a respectful value.

Do not keep experimenting with online recovery services. An incorrect recovery method can waste time, and an untrusted service could steal your funds if you expose the secret.

ChatGPT's initial analysis continued with the best recovery route to investigate a possible path to recover my $ZEN funds.

And in step C, the AI agent provided essential hopes that the official migration portal supports claiming legacy mainchain $ZEN to the Base Network on an 1:1 ratio without any deadline for the process. This is something it wasn't visible when I checked the official migration documentation because I believe the guide was only valid for funds available in non-custodial wallets such as Metamask or Trust Wallet.

In Step 4, the AI Agent makes the recovery path brighter by suggesting that if I could find a public $ZEN transaction ID or my wallet address in my records then I have supplementary chances to recover my funds. Yet the only information that I had was a recovery seed phrase and a list of transactions from the corresponding Wallet Damp which was included in the original seed phrase .txt file!

Therefore ChatGPT OPTIMISTIC recommendation was NOT to discard that t.t. file yet (I was never meant to discard anything about MyZenWallet.io), either to reveal its contents and NOT to assume that my funds are permanently locked because MyZenWallet.io rejects the seed phrase! And that was a huge shock but I was still unclear what I had to do, therefore I continued desperately the discussion with my next question.

And this is where the AI agent guided me to look deeper into the "Wallet Dump", whether it contained any transaction ID / hash, or a public Horizen address. So my next question was obvious after uploading the Wallet Damp on the ChatGPT prompt.

According to the AI Agent, the safest way to process was to review the legacy mainchain claim procedure because te official documentation confirmed that eligible legacy mainchain $ZEN can be claimed at a 1:1 ratio, with no claim deadline specified.

Then, the AI Agent tried to go even further suggesting that the amount of my funds might not included in just one address but be the accumulation of several addresses. And this is why an AI Agent isn't always perfect and accurate because as I reply i was 100% certain that my funds were located is just ONE Horizen address and never used a second one.

The discovery of my Lost $ZEN after a discussion with ChatGPT

The final recommendation was the AI Agent was a true breakthrough to my initial problem. It suggest that to copy paste every single Horizen adsress from the Wallet Dump into the Horizen Migration Tool and check them individually whether there any of them contain EXACTLY 0.32893945 ZEN!

And this is how I proceeded...

What a huge surprise! The very first address of the "Wallet Dump" contains exactly 0.32893945 ZEN!

Here I quote myself from my article "A Farewell to GetZen.Cash Faucet"

That was a great shock as GetZen.Cash had been one of the most reliable and successful faucets that I have ever used and earned almost 0.32893945 ZEN including 0.05181494 ZEN from the GetZen.Cash Referral Program but also from my FaucetCrypto withdrawals as I have already mentioned in my article "Celebrating Level 200 on FaucetCrypto",  which it might not be a huge amount but it was worthy to collect them for free.

Even better, as a double checker, it is obvious that from a screenshot from the Get.Zen.Faucet the same address' initial characters matches 100% with it!

What was interesting in the landing page of the Horizen Migration Tool is the fact that the "CONNECT WALLET" isn't destined ass the source address rather than the "Destination Address" as it becomes obvious page in the second page of the Migration Tool.

Also, it is essential for the user to add a "Signature" which is actually a string produced from the legacy MyZenWallet.io Wallet that contains the following text "ZENCLAIM+Non+Custodial Address"

As a final prerequisite, is to make user to add 0.0001 ETH on the BASE Network which is used for the necessary gas fee needed for the migration.

And that was my endeavour of recovering my locked $ZEN funds from the MyZenWallet.io legacy Wallet. For the time being, my funds are kept secured into my non-custodial wallet but my next step might be to Stake them into the Horizen Staking Platform on the Base Network directly without using any intermediaries.

Final Thoughts

2 years ago, when I first browsed ChatGPT, I was starring the prompt box without having any idea what to ask it. " 2 years later and after completing a relevant course on AI prompting, ChatGPt helped me unbelievably to UNLOCK an astonishing DeadLock of my Horizen funds from a legacy wallet by genuinely using Ancient Greek Philosopher Socrates' maieutic prompting method and NOT by "hacking" into my MyZenWallet.io Wallet.

The amount recovered of 0.32893945 $ZEN worth around $1.99 USD might not be substantial but the whole experience of having a no more than 20 minutes discussion with an AI Agent that helped me unlocking these funds are astonishing and it is a wonderful demonstration of AI capabilities although that might not always be the final outcome.

Finally, I would like to stress again NEVER to use any untrusted services advertised online hoping that ANYONE will help you recover your funds even with the help of AI. Because if a promise appears too good, in the end they will manipulate you to ask for extra funds as a ransom which they will never return.
