Maybe crypto isn't as strange as everybody makes it out to be. Maybe we've been heading toward this kind of money for a long damn time. I was sitting here thinking about my life, my past, where I am now and where the hell I'm going next, and three words popped into my head: paper, plastic, digital. Then I realized those three words don't just describe money. They kind of describe us too.
My paper is my past. You ever try to erase something from paper? You can erase the words, but if you look closely, you can still see where they were. There's a mark. There's a little dent in the page. Sometimes there's a stain. Crumple that paper up, open it again, smooth it out and guess what? The wrinkles are still there. That's life. And anybody who's been around crypto for more than five minutes probably has a few wrinkles too.
Maybe you bought something right before it dropped. Maybe you sold something right before it took off. Maybe you watched a coin you swore was going to the moon dig a hole straight through the damn basement instead. Maybe you listened to somebody online who sounded like they knew everything, only to discover they knew about as much as the rest of us. Or maybe you actually won. Maybe you took a chance nobody around you understood and it worked. Either way, you've got some paper—receipts, lessons, mistakes, stories and probably at least one chart you don't particularly want to look at again.
But here's what I'm learning about my own paper: I'm not supposed to make it brand new again. I can't. My past isn't supposed to look untouched. Neither is yours. A wrinkled piece of paper has texture. It has history. It has proof that something happened to it. Sometimes the most valuable thing you walk away with isn't what you made or lost. It's what you know now that you didn't know before.
Then there's plastic. Plastic is my present. Plastic is interesting because when you apply heat, you can reshape it. And when I thought about that, I immediately thought about passion. Crypto definitely has some heat. Good Lord. One green candle and everybody suddenly thinks retirement is Tuesday. One red candle and people are staring at their phones like somebody just cancelled Christmas.
That's heat. But heat can reshape you. The present is where we get to decide what we're going to do with everything the paper taught us. Maybe you become more patient. Maybe you stop chasing every shiny new thing somebody puts in front of you. Maybe you finally learn the difference between investing, gambling and just plain hoping. And yes, hope has a place, but hope isn't a strategy. Neither is panic. And neither is checking your wallet 47 times before breakfast. Ask me how I know.
The trick with plastic is that you need enough heat to reshape it, but too much heat burns the damn thing. That's true for money too. Passion can motivate you to learn. Obsession can make you stupid. There's a difference. Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is back away from the screen, go outside, drink some water and remember that you are still a human being living on an actual planet. Because your wallet isn't your worth. Your portfolio isn't your personality. And your balance—whether it's up or down—isn't a measurement of how successful you are as a human being. That's something I think this digital generation needs to hear more often.
Then we get to digital. The future. And this is where things get interesting because digital money doesn't feel like the money many of us grew up with. You can't really touch it. It's numbers on a screen, keys, passwords, wallets, networks, code, trust and, ironically, a whole lot of distrust. Crypto basically walked into the room and said, What if money didn't have to look like money anymore? And whether you love crypto, hate crypto, own crypto or still don't understand what the hell a blockchain actually is, that's an interesting question.
Because money has already changed. We went from carrying cash to swiping plastic to tapping phones. Now some people hold assets that exist entirely digitally. Paper. Plastic. Digital. Look at that.

But here's where crypto starts sounding a lot like life to me. You don't completely know what's coming next. Nobody does. There are predictions everywhere. Charts everywhere. Experts everywhere. Somebody is always telling you Bitcoin is going here, another coin is going there, something is about to explode, collapse, pump, dump, moon, crash or change civilization by Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile, the future is sitting there saying, We'll see.
And maybe that's healthy because uncertainty forces you to decide who you are when nobody can guarantee the outcome. That's bigger than crypto. That's life. My paper taught me where I've been. My plastic reminds me that I can still reshape where I am. And my digital future reminds me that tomorrow hasn't been completely programmed yet. I'm still entering information. I'm still learning. I'm still changing. I'm still asking questions.
Maybe that's the real connection between crypto and self-growth that doesn't get talked about enough. We spend so much time trying to predict the next market that sometimes we forget we're also building the next version of ourselves. What happens when the market goes down? Who are you? What happens when it goes up? Who are you then? Can you handle losing without believing you're a loser? Can you handle winning without suddenly believing you're a genius? Can you make money without letting money make you? That's the deeper investment.
So maybe look at your own paper today. What did your financial past teach you? Look at your plastic. What are you reshaping right now—your habits, your spending, your knowledge, your relationship with risk? And then look toward digital. Not with fear. Not with blind hype either. With curiosity. Because the future isn't obligated to look like the past. Hell, neither are you.
I don't know exactly where crypto is going. I don't know what Bitcoin, altcoins, digital currencies or the financial system will look like years from now. Anybody telling you they know exactly what's coming should probably make you ask more questions, not fewer. But I do know this: we're living through an interesting chapter in the history of money, and we're living through our own chapters at exactly the same time.
Some of my pages are wrinkled as hell. Some of my plastic is still being remolded. And my digital future? I'm still writing that. Maybe you are too. Don't let yesterday's loss convince you tomorrow has nothing for you. Don't let today's win convince you you've figured out the universe. Learn. Pay attention. Protect yourself. Stay curious. And remember there is an actual human being behind that wallet address.
Take care of that person too. Because before the bull market, after the bear market, before the pump, after the dump, when the charts are green and when they're bleeding red, you're still going home with yourself. That's the investment you can't afford to neglect.
Paper taught us. Plastic changed us. Digital is challenging us. And whatever comes next, make sure you don't lose yourself trying to catch it.
