QuarkChain (QKC) is a cryptocurrency made by Qi Zhou in 2018. It is a decentralized blockchain platform aimed to be highly scalable for mainstream dApp usage.

The network is described as a highly scalable, secure and decentralized blockchain which uses sharding technology to deliver a high transaction per second (TPS) rate. The sharding technology is what allows this P2P blockchain to achieve a high capacity throughput which is slated to reach over 100,000 TPS by using a dual-layered blockchain mechanism. The first layer acts as the “ledger” layer which is the sharding blockchain. The second layer acts as the “root” layer which confirms all the blocks from the first layer. This is how QuarkChain provides a potential solution to the scalability issue that blockchains are facing today.

The team behind QuarkChain is very proficient, with years of experience working at top companies such as Google, Facebook, and Microsoft. The team has employed a collaborative mining mechanism which allows for the root chain to use 50% of the hashing power to prevent double-spend attacks. The rest of the hashing power is then evenly split between each shard on the first layer. The entire system is said to be horizontally scalable which means that the throughput of the network increases as more nodes enter the system.

After raising over $20 million in Ethereum during their ICO, QuarkChain is well on the way to delivering a solution that will tackle the scalability issues surrounding today’s blockchains. Furthermore, QuarkChain is also EVM compatible meaning that all Ethereum dApps will have no issue in transitioning over to QuarkChain if they need higher throughput.
