I have already written some posts on hiking along the banks of River Secchia, but I have not yet written about the mountain part of the river.
If we go upstream we can arrive at a section of the River almost wild located inside the limits of the National Park of the Tuscany and Emilia Apennines ...

... where are the Fonti di Poiano (Poiano springs) ...

... a very green and quiet area among the mountains of the Province of Reggio Emilia.

The springs have a very strong water flow (some hundreds of liters per second) ...

... waters that have a particularly high mineral content as they flow across evaporitic rocks (in particular gypsum) of Triassic age.

Unluckily nowadays it is not possible to walk until the spring (the pathway is closed) cause of the danger of falling rocks ...

... but one can console oneself with the meadows, the water, the woods and the wild orchids.

A very refreshing landscape.
