Hello world!
Well, that's odd. Somehow, the world changed in 2020 (I'm pretty sure you know what I mean) and I ended up starting a YouTube channel - more or less by accident. In this blog I will share my experience -- I report my successes as well as my failures in short, easily digestible posts. I hope, you will join me in this wild ride.
So let's start with a bit of my backstory: I have been working in university sports for a couple of years. I kept myself busy, healthy, lean and fit by instructing (and at the same time participating) in 4 weekly full-body workout classes. A total of 6 hours per week. The classes were a lot of fun for me, as well as for the participants -- I hope at least. Well, I assume they were fun for the participants, too. At least, I can state that the classes were well-frequented by sometimes triple-digit numbers of participants. I'm pretty sure, you can guess the effect the C-virus had on me and my classes around March to April 2020... It sent me to holidays. Unpaid holidays, to be exact. And my classes: Cancelled.
At first, I welcomed the break. 6 hours each week of hard workouts were plenty for my taste and I could use a short break for 2 or 3 weeks. I didn't assume the consequences would last longer. Well, they ended up lasting a lot longer... I believe, as of writing this post on August, 1st, nobody really knows how long the effects will last.
So, my classes were cancelled for an undetermined amount of time. Great. I used the time -- wisely at first -- to rest. So far, so good, I was well-rested, ready to go, but the world was not. My classes remained cancelled. It was a time of great uncertainty. Worldwide. I waited some more, used the time to rest some more -- classes still cancelled. Resting was not so wise anymore at this point. Bad habits started to emerge and they were here to stay. It was at this point I decided that I needed to start working out again. I had gained weight and at the same time lost muscle, strength and endurance. The act of sitting down onto a chair suddenly felt strenuous. Walking upstairs felt strenuous, as well. I was shocked how quickly my body had adapted to my new lifestyle of resting. I noticed how quickly I ran out of breath. I hadn't felt that while walking up a couple of stairs in years... Before I started instructing fitness classes. Before I started working out regularly. Well, actually, before I started working out at all... The benefits of years of workouts diminished within a couple of weeks? I couldn't let this happen. I knew I had to start the uphill battle and reverse the effects of a couple of undisciplined weeks...
It was at this time that I decided to use my knowledge and experience and finally start with home workouts. In addition, there were news regarding my classes.
To be continued in part 2. Stay tuned!
