Don't ever enter your seed phrase in crypto

Cream BSC and Pancakeswap DNS Hacked

By Hamminy | cryptoinvesting | 15 Mar 2021

If you visited Cream.finance on the BSC side or Pancakeswap, you may have been hit with a message on a fake Metamask saying something like, "Handshake failed. Enter your seed phrase to continue."

Yeah, in case you're on the slow bus, don't do that. It was a DNS hack.

A DNS hack doesn't touch wallet funds; it's a phishing attempt where the malicious users take over the domain name server of a website. You have to actually get fooled and enter your seed phrase for the hacking attempt to work. The hack doesn't touch the smart contract, so your funds should be safe. But to be sure, this is a teachable moment.

No legitimate wallet will ever ASK you for your seed phrase, so don't ever put it in if prompted. Guard that phrase with your life.

It's also good not to visit either of the websites until we get the ok from the devs. Follow the Cream and Cake Twitters and Telegrams for the latest.

Does this mean we should tell Cream and Cake to fuck off, or should we buy the dip? Personally, I'll stick with Cake because of its close relation to Binance, but I'm starting to get leery on the Andre Cronje side of things. His whole rebellious "test in prod" thing is now starting to just look like amateur hour, and I never fully trusted the guys running Cream.finance.

I took a quick look at Twitter, and a lot of people are getting tired of Cream as well. Apparently they get hacked with some regularity. I haven't noticed because it hasn't affected my funds, so it's good to now come abreast of their reputation. If anybody else has any insights, put it in the comments.

I'm holding steady for now. No need to move for a DNS attack. If they tried that, it's because they couldn't implement a more serious and fruitful attack like they did on Pickle, bZx or Eminence. Cream is a fork of Compound, and I've never heard of Compound getting hacked so far. But again, if I missed something, let me know.

If you messed up and put your keyphrase in there, make a new wallet and withdraw everything to it quickly.

Be safu out there.
