Subject: Burnout and Mental Exhaustion.

Hello everyone, I would like to try something new for my posts, it's something very simple, but I believe it would be cool to share with the community. My idea is to take an excerpt from a report or news and then express my opinion on what I think about the topic presented.

I believe that this way, we can generate a kind of healthy debate on the subject, where everyone can give their honest opinion about what they think. So without further ado, let's go!

The Subject: Burnout and Mental Exhaustion.

I thought I'd start with something I saw recently, which indicates not just in Brazil, but on a global scale, that people are suffering from "Burnout Syndrome", that is, exhaustion from working too much.

Here I am already considering that this issue is certainly growing more and more, after all, the action of working more, to produce more, is always a current and at the same time worrying topic. Who has never felt completely exhausted without adequate time to rest, with countless tasks weighing on them throughout the working day, suffering from the most diverse pressures possible? Well, I'll comment on that!

A Honest Opinion on the Subject

The first point I think about this subject is that perhaps like other more abstract problems, that is, those in which there is generally no perceptible sign or almost none, that people experience, such as, for example, depression or Even other syndromes, as well as lasting sadness and lack of motivation, it is complicated when people judge it as “freshness” when a person is going through something like this.

There are things that are beyond what we can understand and no matter how much we say that everything is ok, in reality, it is not. Burnout Syndrome is one of them, often treated as just a bad night's sleep or some family problem that psychologically altered us in the work environment, disregarding it can be fatal on certain occasions. After all, each and every problem, when it continues in our lives, usually reaches a point where our physical and mental defense breaks down, which proves that mental exhaustion can, indeed, be very dangerous.

It is not difficult to imagine why Burnout is spreading more and more among professionals, in a capitalist world (not that it is the root of the problem, but perhaps its form of execution is) where it is always necessary to produce more and with the romanticization of excesses, such as long working hours or the countless responsibilities that should not be placed on the shoulders of each one of us and as usual that motivation that none of us likes: paying the bills, which mercilessly arrive and we have no time to do where to run, if not to find a way to raise financial resources and pay them.

Often the fact that determines our mental exhaustion and what causes us to leave due to psychological problems is precisely that, the pressure to pay the bills that are getting bigger and bigger and here in Brazil, this alone can be considered the main thing. reason to work so hard, as it is one of the countries where we have the highest rates of taxes and corruption, everything always seems to go against the worker, and here you end up not living but surviving, as if it were a bank game In real estate, deciding where to use the money from your hard-earned salary becomes essential.

I believe that bringing together so many complex and negative details, what remains for us is to work, to earn an individual or family's livelihood, pushing ourselves to the limit, meaning that in addition to the routine work of the week, for those who are someone's employees, we still If we have to run after some “gig”, this term being, doing something or task for other people to receive quick money, so we don't have a formal bond between employee and boss, just a quick way of doing something and in return receiving a payment. Therefore, many people's weekend of rest becomes another day of work, which is certainly bad for their health.

As an example, working with a programmer, I experience a lot of unpleasantness, with a high level of pressure to deliver results, as well as a demand for everything I do to be perfect the first time, which is impossible when you have a product as a Huge system with many interactions and processes. There is no psychological support, the salary I earn is relatively low and the recognition is practically zero. I work from Monday to Friday and despite that, at night and on my weekends, I'm here at Hive looking for a way to earn more resources to be able to provide a better life for my family. Even though I really enjoy posting and living Hive, it's undeniable that I'm exhausted, working and focusing on everything at my limit.

I also observe the news about places that experiment with three-day weekends, in which Friday is also a day off and rest and with this initiative, I believe that professionals who manage to obtain this miracle, have more time to rest, spend time with their families and focus on their personal projects. It's a dream that this will one day happen in Brazil, but nothing is impossible, just very difficult.

So, to conclude my opinion, I believe that today's practices, whether aiming to obtain immeasurable profits from the company, as well as the financial needs and challenges that push the worker into insane work routines, seeking to gain recognition and a salary which is consistent with a good standard of living, result in physical and mental exhaustion of the employee.

It's not easy to resolve this situation, which for me is a cultural problem of romanticizing hard work and the idea that the more you kill yourself in a job, the better, as said. Financial freedom is a possible solution, as well as projects “on the outside”, without binding commitment, like Hive, for example, where we are our own bosses, whether we can think and make changes and differences in this way depends solely on of us.
