Virtually every article you see on Hoi An contains a shot of this lantern shop and this image has come to symbolise Hoi An so I thought I'd better not buck the trend!
Hoi An has an area called The Ancient City. Many of these buildings date back to the 15th and 16th century! It is a wonderful slice of Vietnam's heritage and is an ancient Trading Port which has been beautifully preserved. It is now a UNESCO Heritage Listed site.
Being an old trading port, there is input from various cultures, primarily Cinese and Japanese with later influence from European cultures.
This is the Japanese Bridge and only (!) dates back to the 18th Century.
Like everywhere in Vietnam, fresh fruit is in abundance.
This is a well preserved fishing net of the type used in centuries past.
There is also a healthy (well, pre COVID-19) restaurant, bar and coffee shop trade.
The streets are clean and car free. In fact, only locals and delivery people can drive vehicles in the ancient city. Tourists can walk or hire bicycles to get around.
All in all its a lovely city and we'll worth visiting if you're ever lucky enough to visit Vietnam.
