Publish0x logo, text saying how I get a leg up on my writing

Tips for aspiring writers here on Publish0x, actually it works anywhere. How to get a leg up

If you have followed my writing you might know that I have a severe case of dyslexia. In case you are unfamiliar with what that is, it is a sort of "catch-all" term for problems regarding reading and/or writing. And by that, I mean that if you have dyslexia, it can vividly vary how it affects you compared to how someone else is affected. In my case, it means reading a bit slower than the average reader, but the place where I am affected the most is when it comes to spelling. I am a horrible speller. I thought I would dedicate this post to talking about how I go about handling this.

How much of a problem can it be?

To show you what I am talking about, I will leave this initial section as I wright it. And you can see if you think there is any different bettwin this first paragraf and the rest of the post. =) Hopefuly it will not be that much of a hassel for you to read this part. On eof the ways that I use to try and cope with this problem isbecaus I know I spell words wrong, especially some words. These I recognice when I use them frequently. Then I basicly have to bruteforce learn how to spell them. Sort of how some people use to do they glosery homework, back in school. This mens that I slowly get a litle better with time. Well as long as I keep at it that is.

And there are some other issues I have with my fingers moving out of order as well. But I hope that the text above is somewhat legible. So perhaps the first thing you think of is probably "just use the dam spellcheck you muppet". And I do, it is just it does not always help. And this is because of the lovely thing called homonyms. And if you don't know what they are I won't blame you. They are words that sound the same but mean different things. Like which and witch.

I know the meaning of both words, I just do not know witch is witch. See what I did there. ^^ Pretty funny right, well as long as it is intentional it can be. In my case, I am sure most people find it pretty annoying after a while. This means I spend some time googling either words or parts of sentences, to try and find the correct one to use.

How is this useful to you?

Well, the first part is probably not that useful, I have to admit. But this next part I think people will find useful. I very recently came across an app called Grammarly. And the way it works is it highlights words or sentences just like a normal spellchecker would. But it also highlights words that do not fit in the sentence. An example is if you use the wrong tense of a word. Or if the meaning is phrased like a question, but you might have forgotten to add the ?. Grammatical things like this.

It also will give you an indication of how readers will perceive your text. This can be of great help, especially if you are going for a certain tone, and want to come across your writing. It will also help you detect sentences or phrases that you might want to replace. Like if you tend to use filler words.

A perfect example of how Grammarly can help you.

And how can it know what to choose, well the exact science behind it I have to confess I have no clue about. But when you sign up for the free version of the app you get to make a few choices. These choices are based on how you want your text to come across.

They also have two Premium tires, one for solo users and one for companies. I have yet to try any of these out. So I can not say how much of a benefit they would make. The program does however hint at how it can help if you were to have the premium version.

I hope that you have found this post to be useful or at the very least an interesting read. Let me know how you solve your issues with writing if you have any.
