Satoshi Nakamoto mines the first Bitcoin block

By ScreenTag | The Other Side | 6 Jul 2021

It's Saturday, January 3rd of the year 2009. Satoshi Nakamoto writes the run command on his computer, and a few minutes later the first Bitcoin block is mined. 50 brand new Bitcoins are created. But where are they? The answer: Practically nowhere.

Although the block did generate 50 brand new Bitcoins, with no miner account assigned to the block, those Bitcoins are practically inexistent. As if they were burnt the moment they were mined.

It took Satoshi 6 more days to come up with the idea of transactions, wallets and all other stuff we know today to finalize the Bitcoin concept. You can view that first ever mined Bitcoin block here: https://tradeblock.com/bitcoin/block/0

This is the first of a series of posts about the very first days of Bitcoin, based on how and when the first hundreds of blocks were mined, as the testnet concept was never part of the Bitcoin blockchain. Mainnet was also the testnet.
