Splinterlands Blog #1 - A Guide for Extremely New Players (From An Extremely New Player)

By Jmac1773 | The Hard Fork | 29 Sep 2021

Splinterlands is an NFT-based card battle game.  It works on the Hive Blockchain via magic and ERC-20 token dreams.  That's just my funny way of saying that I have no idea how side-chain, block chain, or any other chain actually works but that's what we're here for; to learn together, figure all this out, and make it as painless as possible.  So let's go.

Splinterlands:  A Brief Overview

Splinterlands is a card battle game sort of like Magic the Gathering meets Pokemon.  At least that's my take on it after never having played either of those games extensively for years.  In my newbie nutshell, it's a way to get NFTs.  Seriously.  The playing cards are NFTs that can be bought, sold, or rented out to other players to earn passive income.  (More about that in later blogs).  I'm sure most of you reading this are already familiar or at least have heard of Splinterlands so I won't get into the minutia of what it is.  Basically, it's easier and far less expensive to enter the world of NFTs via Splinterlands than it is via Axie Infinity.  A lot cheaper.

So, if you've ever considered playing... now is the time.  The game seems to be taking off and more and more players are joining every day.  I, of course, was late to the Splinterlands party so I missed out on buying land, early card packs etc.  But not to worry.  There is still plenty to do and learn and that's what I intend to help you with in this blog.

I would also appreciate it, if you'd like to play, to click here to use my affiliate link.  I would be very grateful if you did!

On the Next Splinterlands Post...

We will look at what the next steps are once you sign up and how to start playing and earning FREE NFTs!

New to the world of crypto and I'm determined to help others understand it better and have fun doing it!

So here's the deal: I'm a middle-aged guy who is dipping my toes in the world of crypto, NFTs, AMMs, DEX, DAPP, and all the other acronyms that I generally have little idea as to what they mean. But it's fun. That's what I want to explore in this blog. If I'm honest, this blog actually has a two-fold purpose: To learn and demystify the world of crypto for those of us over, say... 35, and to have FUN doing it. And also to make some extra money along the way.
