The Bank of Evil- Part Four
A Novel by TheAiCollective.art
Chapter 13
Ramirez sped back through the wasteland, eager to put distance between herself and the ominous bank. As her hometown came into view, something seemed off. An eerie red glow lit the sky ahead.
She raced towards it and gasped - the entire town was on fire! Ramirez rushed to help evacuate the panicked residents from the blaze.
"What on earth caused this?" Ramirez asked the sheriff who was coordinating the efforts.
"We don't know yet. It just went up suddenly, like the fires of hell itself," he replied.
A scream drew their attention. A little girl cried that her dog was still trapped inside her burning house. Before anyone could react, Ramirez bolted into the inferno.
Chapter 14
The intense heat seared Ramirez's skin as she searched frantically for the dog. Flames raged on all sides, threatening to consume her.
Just when she thought all hope was lost, Ramirez heard barking in the back room. She burst in to find the dog cornered by fire. Scooping the terrified animal into her arms, she turned to escape.
A thunderous groan sounded as part of the ceiling collapsed, blocking her path. Trapped and surrounded by raging flames, Ramirez closed her eyes and prepared to meet her end.
Suddenly, a cool soothing force enveloped her, shielding her from the flames. Ramirez stumbled outside to safety, the dog still in her arms. But what had protected them?
Chapter 15
Once the fires were under control, investigators sifted through the aftermath. It was determined to be arson, but no suspect could be found.
Ramirez pondered the mystery as she recovered in the hospital. She had told no one of her supernatural rescue, fearing they'd think her mad. But she knew in her heart what had really happened.
During her phone call with Lily, Ramirez learned that the fires had started right after the town preacher publicly condemned her relationship, calling it a sin that would invite demonic forces. His hateful words had sparked an uproar.
Ramirez realized it was no demon that had saved her, but an angel. A being of true goodness had emerged to protect the innocent. Love had triumphed over evil.
Chapter 16
Weeks later, Ramirez led an expedition back out into the wasteland. She brought a team of scientists seeking to finally understand the Bank of Evil's secrets. If evil entities dwelled inside, it was time to bring them into the light.
Donning protective suits, they entered the cursed vault. Symbols of warding had been drawn on the walls and floor to guard against any released evil forces.
The vault was empty, no demons in sight. Using spectral analyzers, the team began detecting energy traces surrounding the bloodstains. The readings were unlike anything they had encountered - not supernatural, but radiation.
Chapter 17
Further tests revealed the truth - the vault had once housed nuclear waste barrels that had leaked and ruptured centuries ago. The radiation had mutated the plant and animal life inside the vault into horrific shapes.
When scavengers and thieves later entered, drawn by legends of the treasure within, they encountered the crazed mutant creatures and were slaughtered. Their mauled corpses gave rise to ghost stories.
Ramirez shook her head at the revelations. In the end, the only real evil had been the human greed and folly that led so many to their doom in search of imagined riches. The true threat had come from man, not demons.
With the secrets finally uncovered, she hoped the ghosts of the past could finally rest in peace. The Bank of Evil had no more mysteries left to claim another victim.
The End.
