My Splinterlands Self Challenge #20 - End of a 2nd Season Playing Silver III

My Splinterlands Self Challenge #20 - End of a 2nd Season Playing Silver III

Welcome to another update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues with only the initial set of cards!… Plus, whatever I can earn or win. This season was the second one that I've just hung out at Silver III to get the double daily rewards. I don't have the cards to actually play competitively in the Silver league, but I also wanted to skip the hundreds of games needed to get a top spot in Bronze league.

This week felt relatively short in terms of Splinterlands activity. Maybe it's just because real life has been so hectic. At any rate, here's a breakdown of what happened:

Daily Quest # 132 - Win 5 with Earth. This took 6 games to complete. For finishing the daily quest, I received 2 Gold potions.

Outside of the game, I won 2 copies of the rare Fire monster card, Living Lava, from @Clove71's Twitch stream. I also picked up 400 Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) from @MarcusWahl's Twitch stream. I then spent 194 DEC on 5 Legendary potions and 49 for 1 Gold potion to open the other pack I had won from the Gala Games event.

A golden common card is better than just 4 common cards!

Daily Quest # 133 - Win 5 with Water. This took 6 games to complete. For finishing the daily quest, I got 13 DEC and an 11th copy of the common Water monster card, Wave Runner.

Daily Quest # 134 - Win 5 with Fire. This took 9 games to complete. For finishing the daily quest, I received 6 DEC and a 4th copy of the rare Life monster card, Silvershield Sheriff. I should point out, I was making a good two times this amount of DEC per win in Silver III.

Daily Quest # 135 - Win 5 with Death. This took 7 games to complete. For finishing the daily quest, I got 1 Legendary potion and an 8th copy of the common Earth monster card, Screeching Vulture.

Daily Quest # 136 - Win 5 with Dragon. This took 6 games to complete. For finishing this daily quest, I received a Gold potion and a 3rd copy of the rare Earth monster card, Centauri Mage.

Daily Quest # 137 - Win 5 with Life. This took 5 games to complete. For finishing the daily quest, I got a 12th copy of Wave Runner and a 3rd copy of the rare Water monster card, Captain's Ghost.

Daily Quest # 138 - Win 5 with Fire. This took 7 games to complete. For finishing the daily quest, I received 2 Legendary potions. I also got a copy of the new epic Earth monster card, Beatrix Ironhand, from @Clove71 on Peakd. I had also put up a bid on PeakMonsters, and someone sold me another copy for about 847 DEC.

I played in a total of 4 tournaments, two Kobold Mining Expedition Novice league rules, a Bronze rules with no legendary cards, and a Bronze rules with no legendary cards, where only the Untamed set could be used. In the Bronze rules, all sets, with no legendary cards tournament I went 6-4-1 the first day. This did not make the cutoff for round 2, but this tournament paid out to the top 128. So, I still got 100 DEC for coming in 84th place.

In the Untamed set only Bronze league rules tournament, I went 7-4 the first day, also not making day 2. However, I came in 57th place, winning 100 DEC. The first Kobold Mining tournament was where I did the best this week. I finished round one with a 9-2 record, and ended the second day 16-6, coming in 11th place and winning 200 DEC. I went 6-2-3 in the other Kobold Mining tournament, coming in 65th place with no prize since draws count for less than wins in tie-breakers.

As I mentioned in my last article, I still have level one versions of about half the Untamed summoners, so I feel I went into the Untamed set only tournament with a big disadvantage. My goal for the upcoming season is still going to be to try to level them up, though I got distracted by the new reward cards. Having only ever bought one pack, with DEC winnings, my 1 in 65 odds of getting one for free did not pay off this time.

My season end rewards for being in Silver III.

I took it relatively easy this season, not pushing for the leaderboard ranking. I still managed to finish in the top 100, though only barely. I am also still about 7,000 card power away from being able to go up to Silver II, adding a third daily reward. So, for the upcoming season, I am planning on trying to make another run at the Bronze leaderboard for packs.

This may be a terrible idea, as I'm not on vacation this season. Still, I like my odds for at least pushing up to the top 20 again. I wasn't that happy with playing in Silver either, as my under leveled cards often meant that I just couldn't win some matches. We'll see if I regret this decision in a week, when I write up my mid-season update!
