1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coin

1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coin

By Solominer | Solominer | 16 Feb 2020

My first gold purchase, and I think it will be a keeper. Ive always liked the Buffalo head designs. And having a $50 face value was interesting to me. I do not plan on trading it in for such.. haha but cool to see it on there. The Platinum coin in my previous SSG post has a $100 face value by comparison.

This coin has more gold compared to the American Gold Eagle. Its minted using 22-karat gold (.9167 in purity) and has other metals mixed in. If handling the coin this makes for a stronger piece that is less likely to have the gold flake off during handling. Though I am planning on keeping them in storage. So going with a coin with more gold seemed the way to go. Holding this coin after holding the Platinum coin it has a similar weight and small diameter to it.

The shine coming off this coin was really nice, a bright yellow. Ive read that the 24-karat gold has more of a shine. Versus the American Eagle with less gold inside.

Having a pure gold coin also gives it more smelt value, or if I wanted to do something with the coin science related knowing its more of a pure gold gives it certain uses. Not that im planning on doing that right away. I do not have any experience in metalwork, but maybe one day. In the mean time ill handle it very carefully not to damage it and wear gloves with working with it.

I mostly have silver in my stack, but good to have some gold and platinum as well now. I bought the coin a few months ago and looks like it has already appreciated in value since then. Looking forward to the future of holding some metals.

The background I used is a stenciled Steem logo on some paper I had. I made a video on how I did that and was posted on Steem, Publish0x and Uptrennd.
