Did you get lost this past quarter? I know, it went by super fast for me. Here are some of the highlights from the Quantum Computing world.

Amazon Partners With De Beers

The partnership was formed to "Grow Fake Diamonds For Quantum Computing".  Recall the transmission of data in quantum networking will be on the subatomic level and goes beyond today's fiber-optic network capabilities. The key is to overcome the issue of degradation. Lab cultivated diamonds may allow data to travel longer distances without degradation.  Will this give Amazon AWS the leg up it needs to lead the Quantum Computing Race?

IBM Installs World's First Quantum Computer for Accelerating Healthcare Research - March '23

IBM is working with world renowned Cleveland Clinic, IBM has built a private on-prem Quantum computer dedicated to Healthcare Research. Recall IBM has a decades long relationship with the Cleveland Clinic. Some of the highlights of the relationship are:

Cleveland Clinic-IBM Discovery Accelerator has generated multiple projects that leverage the latest in quantum computing, AI and hybrid cloud to help expedite discoveries in biomedical research. These include:

  • Development of quantum computing pipelines to screen and optimize drugs targeted to specific proteins;
  • Improvement of a quantum-enhanced prediction model for cardiovascular risk following non-cardiac surgery;
  • Application of artificial intelligence to search genome sequencing findings and large drug-target databases to find effective, existing drugs that could help patients with Alzheimer’s and other diseases.
  • The state of Ohio has chipped in nice sum $500M investment to 

Understanding of quantum turbulence

Quantum turbulence an issue that has plagued scientists for decades. Bringing an improved understanding of turbulence beginning on the quantum level could allow for improved engineering in domains where the flow and behavior of fluids and gases like water and air is a key.

The team's findings, published in Nature Physics, demonstrate a new understanding of how wave-like motion transfers energy from macroscopic to microscopic length scales, and their results confirm a theoretical prediction about how the energy is dissipated at small scales. As you know Quantum turbulence at large scales. An example of such scale would be turbulence around moving airplanes or ships, is difficult to simulate. The goal of the study an improved understanding of turbulence beginning on the quantum level could allow for improved engineering in domains where the flow and behavior of fluids and gases like water and air is a key question.  The net is how energy disappears from quantized vortices at ultra-low temperatures has been crucial in the study of quantum turbulence

Quantum Accuracy Hits new Record

Who - Sussex University Scientists located in Sussex England. 

What did they accomplish? They transferred data with record speed and record accuracy. As speed and accuracy are critical to Quantum computing being rapidly accepted.

Critical - The Sussex team demonstrated a way to transfer information between quantum chips with 99.999993% reliability, the connection rate was 2424/s.

Summary - last year Quantum Computing took several large strides forward, This year has started out rapidly w/ Amazon working to grow Fake Diamonds For Quantum Computing to overcome fiber optic limitations. IBM has installed a dedicated Quantum environment to aid healthcare, while breakthroughs in Quantum accuracy and turbulence will bring us closer to a Quantum future. Stay tuned.
