With a maximum altitude of 1993 meters in the Tower, Serra da Estrela is an area of rare landscape beauty with impressive mountain slopes where we can live the silence of the heights intensely. And enjoy these moments of communion with nature to observe it, noting the variety of vegetation, birds or herds of sheep guided by dogs of the breed that the Sierra named.

But we can also follow the course of the great Portuguese rivers from their sources - Mondego in Mondeguinho, Zêzere in Covão de Ametade and Alva in Rossim Valley are stunning locations. Or enjoy the glacier valleys of Loriga, Manteigas, or Covão do Urso and Covão Grande. In the warmer months, the best suggestion will surely be the 25 Pond Route that guides us through refreshing spaces.
In cold weather, Serra da Estrela is the only place in Portugal where we can practice snow skiing, as well as sledding, snowboarding or motorcycling. There are several slopes with supporting infrastructure, and we can find synthetic snow slopes for skiing at any time of the year.

This natural park is great for walking, horse riding or cycling. There are about 375 kilometers of marked trails on the ground, with varying levels of difficulty, so surely there will be some suitable for our physical conditions.

No wonder Serra da Estrela is one of Portugal's best destinations for nature lovers. The good thing is to be one of those destinations that never runs out, as there are dozens (if not hundreds) of secrets waiting to be discovered.
