Good Memories: My dad and 69 Caprice

I have always enjoyed working in the garage with my dad. Several years ago, my dad bought a 1969 Chevy Caprice. It was quite possibly the largest most obnoxious car I had ever seen. Since my dad is retired, and he likes cars he decided that he needed a project to keep him busy. When he got the Caprice it didn't run, it was white, and needed some major body work, it did however have an obnoxious tricked out interior. The interior has not really aged well, and needs some TLC.

As I mentioned when my dad got it, it didn't run. I would go down to Springfield (about 60 miles) to help my dad. I helped him replace the trunk lid, and in the process managed to get locked in the trunk, and my dad had to take out the backseat to get me out because something malfunctioned with the lock. Then I was helping him do the brakes, and not anticipating that the tires would be so heavy I took the back one off and fell into the air compressor that caused a bad chain reaction and toppled my dad's shelves. My dad just shook his head, and said "well, we best get back to work".

I remember taking it for a ride right after my dad got it running, we were out in the country on a flat stretch of road....My dad looks at me and says " what is going on are you old??, PRESS THE GAS" we flew, if a plastic car would have pulled out in front of me it would have been obliterated.

My dad and I don't always see eye to eye, but these are great memories. I will always cherish them. A few weeks ago my dad called me up and and said " I'm done with the big car" if you want it...it's yours. I tried to talk him out of it, because I knew how much effort and work he put into it. But he insisted. I am now the proud owner of a 1969 Caprice, and it makes me smile.

I am going to have to save my money so I can get the inside fixed up, so it makes my dad proud. In a few weeks, Rod Run is being held in Pigeon Forge. I will be out there proudly showing off my dad's handiwork. And.....boy does it sound BADASS!!!!
