Hat:
Diameter 5-14 cm, when young long-arched with a curled edge, later it becomes slightly convex or flat. The skin is bare, smooth and not absorbing water. In the young fruiting body, a bright purple hat, later pink-purple, in mature brown-purple or red-brown, becomes ocher in old age.

Very young when young, later brown-brown, dense, thin, cut with a notch.

Stem:
Height 5-10 cm, thickness 1-3 cm, cylindrical, full, slightly fibrillose-filamentous on the top, usually club-thickened and purple-fibre at the base. Surface first purple, then gray purple.

Pulp:
Meaty, hard when young, purple, soft, creamy in the ripe fruiting body. Slight, pleasant taste, characteristic, pleasant spicy aroma, rarely odorless.
