Another unit I overestimated? - finding reasons to play Cursed Windeku in Splinterlands

Sorry for being late, but the festive season held me in a tight grip! ;) All of you readers that I have not greeted yet: I wish you a belated Merry X-Mas and Happy New Year!

So it is a new year and I am back in Splinterlands' share-your-battle challenges!
The year starts with the Cursed Windeku of Death Splinter. When the Chaos Legion was new I thought of it as a rather good unit. However I had some kind of a hard time winning battles with this unit prior to writing this post.

As always: This series of posts of mine are still mainly about bcx1 units in Silver League!
But some perspective: As well as the lineups changed in Silver League my focus on bcx1 units in my posts will change somewhere in the near future.

So my thoughts on Cursed Windeku which is a Rare card of Death Splinter are...:
first thought (+): Thorns ability combined with
second thought (+): High health of 9 and
third thought (o): reasonable cost of 6 mana and
fourth thought (+): 2 melee damage and even
fifth thought (o): a decent initiative of 3
made Cursed Windeku in my thoughts at least a unit "above average".

For all of this good to reasonable stats I do not expect an ultimate weapon against any opponent's setup, but at least a good tank with some potential for dealing damage on its own!

Let us look at the "above average tank" in one of my battles here:

Hard facts: Modern Format, 54 Mana Cap, Additional Rules: Lost Legendaries.

We see a lot of gold here on each side. However my opponent even went with a golden Cursed Windeku which in turn had a higher health stat than mine.

Being each side's main tank the Cursed Windekus somehow neutralized each other and in the screenshot above we see my Cursed Windeku just prior to its activation and last action in the whole battle. After this screenshot it will attack and leaves the field after being hit by GF Cursed Windeku's thorns.

While I reached the enemy's backline already, my opponent met with my Undead Rexx and it probably not hard to guess...

... that the enemy lacked just too much health to still win the game. And with the end of Round 1 the battle had basically already been decided.

So what do I think in conclusion? Even my quick stats analysis above point in the direction that Cursed Windeku is a good unit to me. And prior to this post I observed that Windeku is often the main tank in Death Splinter lineups. However being a 6 mana unit (and considering the real lot of battles of mine prior to writing this post) most rulesets do not allow Cursed Windeku to perfectly fit into most rule sets.
And that is why I personally come to the conclusion that it is still a worthy unit, but seldom your best choice in your lineups.

If you read this post to its end, but have not yet signed up for Splinterlands you might reconsider. If then feel free to use my sign-up link: https://splinterlands.com?ref=jdike
No financial advice, though!
