I hope you had a nice weekend and started well into the new week.

Now you can listen to my Monday-Mix by manuell #087, live mixed and broadcasted on the 24th of October 2022 to the audioasyl.net platform. It's a calm mix for electronic music lovers who appreciate different and more tranquil mixes besides the pushy club mixes. This Monday-Mix is located in the genre Electronica and was mixed in Tuscany in Italy.

This year I was with friends in Tuscany at the olive harvest. It was wonderful! Being in these old trees all day in the most beautiful weather has something meditative. After the work is done in the evening, you meet for an aperitif and let the day end. Since we went to Tuscany by car, I took this time my slightly larger controller to make music.

Technical challenges I had with this mix

The technical challenges were of a different nature this time. Namely, there was no electricity at this pavilion with the fantastic view. My laptop is already 3 years old and the battery has also seen better days.

So the challenge was to find out if I could even mix a longer set without a power source. Besides the laptop itself, it also had to power the midi controller and the external sound card in this situation.

I shut down all unnecessary processes beforehand (every CPU cycle counts), stopped Bluetooth and WLAN, and dimmed the screen to the minimum. After a half-hour test run, the battery indicator still showed enough power for a little less than two hours. After fully charging the speakers and laptop again, I went to my chill spot and started making music. It was perfect and the set ended exactly at sunset!

The set turned out to be 2 hours and 4 minutes long. While packing up shortly after, my laptop then suddenly shut down due to lack of power. That was close!!! But the recording was recorded without any problems, so I can present that here now.

What is Monday-Mix

My “Monday-Mix by manuell” is a live-broadcast with nice Electronica, Dub-Techno, Chillout, spiced up with a lot of Creative Commons music from netlabels and my field recordings. It started as a technical experiment (Icecast) for myself, became a broadcast for my friends, and ended up until now with 87 shows over 13 years and listeners all over the world. Who is manuell

I'm a DJ from Zurich, Switzerland. I'm mixing since 1994 and my sound is mostly influenced by Techno, Dub-Techno, and Deep-House. Aka “manuell maschinell” I mix with up to 4 decks and integrate a Drum-Maschine and/or other machines as live components into my setup.
