In the world there are always things that surprise us, sometimes we think that we know a lot or that more or less we have everything "very seen" but any strange detail can attract our attention even if it is something small, unimportant... Well, things to eat are always important, right?

Thus, exploring the open market in my new town, I discover that the usual vegetables are not always “the usual”, it has already happened to me with a couple of products, they have surprised me because at least for now I had not seen them in any of those big supermarkets where it seems that there is always everything and thousands of varieties.

I have seen blue tomatoes, yes, they are tomatoes like any other, of the “raf” variety, very good. But this time they looked different, strange and no, they weren't damaged, or outdated by the heat, they were like that. And that's how they put it on the handwritten posters... "a kilo of blue raf tomato for one euro". (In addition, the prices are unbeatable). They sold them on several benches, many of the vendors usually bring the same things or products and apparently today was the day of the blue tomato.

I love all kinds of tomatoes, and we are lucky to live in a country with a very good production of them. There are those who try to plant at home too, I did it and in the future when I prepare the new terrace I hope that too... Tomato love!

And it turns out that I also like the color blue, especially the blue of the sea, and of the sky, both shades of bright blue competing in the panorama and in our gaze. I have also written a lot about the sea, the Mediterranean Sea that I have here, that inspires me so much, and from that sky that accompanies us, everything turns blue.

The most magical combination, tomatoes and blue color... it is true that when mixed with red it seems to have a certain purple, dark aspect, but it is simply the façade because all you have to do is peel it to see that it is also red inside, like all of them. the other tomatoes we know. These are tasty and meaty, a pretty red, almost perfect, good for a salad or whatever you want.

So a small, round, red vegetable like we all have in mind can suddenly surprise us, capture our attention and curiosity, even make us look on the Internet to see what this variety is and think why we hadn't seen it around here until now...

Apparently it is a new gourmet variety modified so that the skin has that color, making it produce high levels of anthocyanin (like blueberries, etc.), which gives it that color and good extra antioxidant properties, it has low acidity and is very juicy. There are also even more intense varieties in some areas, where they are almost black. What I like the most is that they are irregular in shape, each one is different, they have small flaws, cracks and nooks and crannies, which makes each one special and not identical red balls, all the same as clones.

If we find them out there, and at a good price, it is good to be able to enjoy their flavor. Long live the colors in food, it makes our eyes happy and gives us a greater variety of vitamins. I also like this blue tomato. Green and red garden and blue sea in the same bite.
