I came across Splinterlands, while browsing the State of the DApps website. I tried the trial version of the game and I liked what I saw and the gameplay was quick, yet very tactical and strategic.

As a long-time casual player of Slay the Spire, strategic and randomized card-based battle games have always had a great appeal to me.

I want to use this blog to document my journey and experiences in playing Splinterlands.

How did the first week go?

A lot of my initial research was reading blog posts by @costanza. I decided to sign-up under his referral and bought the summoners pack in order to unlock the daily quests and rewards.

Daily routine

I log in when the daily quests refresh and play for 20mins to 1 hour a day. Also, it all depends where I am sitting in the league ladder, but I try to at least grind a few more battles to continue my ascent up the league ladder.

Community

I signed up to the Splinterlands discord community and also joined a new guild. There seems to be a lot of activity in the Splinterlands discord which is promising to see.

Mistakes I made initially when playing

When I started playing I made the following mistakes:

1. Ignored using magic attacks
2. Not paying enough attention to the position of cards on the battlefield
3. ignoring the rulesets and how they affect the battle

After reading FAQs, guides, and posts - I realized the mistakes I was making. Don't worry, I will probably be making more :).
