Developers’ Favorite Crypto Project and their Influence (EOS, TRX, ETH,...)

Recently, I read the Outliers Ventures' report (here) and this report will surely interest you a lot since it contains a massive amount of information on many blockchain project and especially about the work of the developers.

I think each of us is more or less interested in a different aspect of cryptocurrencies. Some like the purely speculative aspect, others the technology behind each project and some simply like the idea of decentralized currencies. Maybe you like all these three aspect and maybe even more.

This report presents, in my opinion, a different angle and that is why I chose to write about it.

What is this report about ?

This report presents and compares, among other things, the developers' investments with regard to different blockchains. From my point of view this seems to be a good indicator of the current state of some projects. You will see that, for example, EOS, Tron or Bitcoin Cash are not really on the rise and this is transcribed in the interest that the developers give to these projects.

Percentage change in developer building

As you can see on the graph, the interest of these shifts towards more "attractive" projects such as Cosmos or Polkadot.

Activity from the developers

The projects that arouse the least interest from developers are TRON, Bitcoin Cash and of course EOS. It appears that EOS is facing an 86% drop in activity from its developers. Compared to all the others, these three are suffering enormously (we are more towards a drop of 20% on average for the other protocols).

As a result, code updates are also rarer for EOS (-94%) and again for TRON (-96%).

Indeed, if fewer and fewer developers are working on certain protocols, this induces less code per unit of time. But there are probably reasons for all of this.

What are the reasons for such a loss of speed ?

Regarding TRON it seems that this is due to the fact that casino players have grown weary since the release. Now, users seem to prefer dApps from the Ethereum blockchain. The announcement of the release of Voice on another blockchain than EOS also had an influence on the number of users. The developers therefore want to migrate to other more promising and younger Blockchains.

What happens next ?

For the moment EOS remains an influential project since it is in ninth place in terms of capitalization. It is also just behind Ethereum when it comes to the number of dApps (32k versus 14k). But it seems to be losing ground on other very ambitious projects.

According to the report, some lesser-known projects like Cosmos and Polkadot :

are likely to rise quickly in the daily active dapp user rankings following the introduction of smart contract runtimes on their networks.

My opinion about this

It was really interesting to read this report and to write this article about it. I think this is very accurate to compare some project with regard to the developers involved over time.

For my part, I think I will take a closer look at some of the projects that are present in this report. Klaytn looks like something that is worth the detour or that in any case is worth a closer look.

On the other side, EOS seems in a really bad spot at the moment and I am not sure it will still be a major project in the next years. In the shorter term they could be overthrown from their 9th place. I imagine we will know more overtime.

Please feel free to share your opinion about all of this in the comment section.

Thanks for reading, have a nice day, stay safe.
