Things are looking up this week with great networking conversations, some long-term planning underway, and getting some good work on different coding projects! Not much to say outside of what I talk about in each section this week, I'm plugging away and working on skills and projects while trying to appreciate the grind.
What I've been learning this week:
- New use cases
- DAO tooling and governance
- Git Commits
- Skills for becoming a better programmer
<usual_enterance> If you're new here I'm creating this blog series as I go from coding newbie to working in web3. I'm creating this to reflect on the technical and non-technical growth and to leave it behind for others who might be interested in how they can follow a similar path. </usual_enterance>
In this week's recap:

WAGMI Squad
Not a development update but I wanted to plug it in here. We are certainly struggling here and I think I've pinpointed an issue that stems from our purpose and size. This issue that I feel like we've run into since conception is that in an organization for people attempting to become developers, the journey is difficult and distracting. This issue is particularly enhanced due to the size of the group. I envisioned a tight-knit of highly motivated jr devs that were rapidly developing projects and supporting each other's professional and technical growth. I think this core vision can and should be extended and I've put forth the proposal for just that.
My recommendation was to expand WAGMI Squad into a dev community with a vision akin to that of a traditional professional organization. This format would include an open community and a DAO. Rather than requiring membership be locked behind a token to be bought, the token can be earned through efforts in learning web3 development. It's a rough draft of a new direction but I am hoping for feedback on this from the other members and anyone else who would like to chime in.
TheDrop
I'm working on the first step of the roadmap after updating the website with the roadmap and a feedback form for bugs and issues. I'm rebuilding the API calls and using the Alchemy SDK instead. I've managed to make the calls and get some data to show in the console. I'm having issues though with trying to change the parameters and get it to show up on the actual website. I've reached out for some help and I'm hoping to get this resolved ASAP. I'm sure I'm just overlooking something.
ETHOnline 2022
I've entered my third (and final until I wrap up some projects) hackathon. I debated about starting this one because of the other projects I have open but ultimately I wanted this opportunity to try and wrap up a hackathon project by myself. I'm going to build a token-gated job board that leverages decentralized technologies and potentially implements some proof-of-personhood mechanism as a way of prohibiting bots. I've picked out the stack for this project and I think this is a reasonable project that I can have a launched MVP of by the deadline of Sep 25th.
Job Search
A few more applications were submitted this week and I had an interview for a devrel position. This interview went really well from my perspective and we should be more talks this coming week.
What's Next?
This week I have three focuses;
1) Finish the first update for TheDrop and allow users to search an NFT project and see the collections basic info and a gallery of the NFTs
2) Work my ass off to get the ETHOnline hack project as far as I can
3) Apply for awesome web3 job opportunities
That's where I'm at and I hope I have some stellar news to share in next week's update!
