Steemit Hard Fork "Hive" Kicks off Friday! Get Ready for a New Truly Decentralized Community.

Steemit is scheduled to hard fork on Friday, March 20th at 10am. The new chain, Hive, is going to be a copy of Steemit with changes made to support decentralized governance. The news of this transition was well received by the Steemit community, and is a chance to build a truly decentralized community from the ashes of a flawed DPOS system.

This comes as a reaction to the drama that occurred during the acquisition of Steemit Inc. by Justin Sun's Tron Foundation. The reaction by Steemit Inc's developers and staff was mass resignation and displeasure. The misuse of the "ninja-mined" stake and the voting in of witnesses by exchange-held STEEM coins was the final straw. A hard fork was inevitable at that point, and on Friday this will become a reality.

I am excited to join this community, and you can find me in the community as cryptoedify. I highly suggest all Steemians to move to this blockchain. We are restarting the community, and will take the lessons learned forward. As a life-long learner, I am taking alot to the new platform. Decentralized systems are an amazing fixture of the future, and we need to ensure our new system does not fall prey to centralized power.

Some new controls the Hive hard fork will employ to ensure decentralized governance include a wait time of 30-days for witness voting from asset deposit into the platform. This was a key weakness to the Steemit DPOS system. The system is being created to ensure content is owned by the creator, which is not the case with most publically traded social media companies.
