As you may know, I have a bone to pick with the Deviant Art Website's administration, chiefly because the site is no longer even remotely deviant (or at least far less than it once was), certainly not in the sexual sense of the word. Why is that? What happened? I don't know, but I do know that this chunk of text made it into the Terms of Service (ToS):
Thou shalt not "upload, post, or otherwise transmit any public and shared content that is pornographic, obscene, offensive, blasphemous, unlawful, threatening, menacing, abusive, harmful, an invasion of privacy or publicity rights, defamatory, libelous, vulgar, illegal or otherwise objectionable".
And whom is the Almighty Arbiter that decides what is "obscene" or "offensive" or "otherwise objectionable" or "vulgar", etc, etc, (and to whom, at that)? How positively and utterly stupid! I think that, von all den Dingen, die strengstens verboten sind, "blasphemous" takes the proverbial cake for being most obviously pathetically pious. (I hold pantheistic beliefs that are devoid of religion. To me, there's no such thing as "blasphemous". Blasphemous is just a word to label "something, usually truth, that a religious person can't tolerate".) The whole thing reeks of a failure to respect a person's right from religion (and religious dictates) and reads like the guidelines that a Nazi Art Comittee would have followed in deciding what art to ban, IMO. Yes, I just invoked Godwin's law. Go have a big wank over it (except that you're unlikely to find anything to encourage that inclination on Deviant Art ...)
Do you know what happens to other people when you get offended by something? Typically, sweet fuck all (maybe a few angry/insulting words from you in a heated exchange at most), that's what. Then you move on with life. If you're me, you write a ranty blog post, amuse/entertain people and earn a few tips in the process. Not everyone is so fortunate as to possess such skills as I, though ...
Jeepers, folks, but this is the Internet on which you find yourselves (in case you somehow haven't noticed) and Rule #34 is definitely a real thing in the supposedly social circles in which I move(d). It was that exact phrasing in the ToS that put me off even bothering to create an account on that sorry excuse of a Website in the first place, following my observing that anything that could be considered even vaguely sexy/suggestive was censored and subsequently removed (although it seems to be an ongoing game of whack-a-mole between the artists and the administration). I used to get a lot of smut from that site, but now getting even a glimpse of anything arousing/salacious is a mission that requires jumping through various hoops that might as well be aflame. (Hello, cosplayers whom show a lot of skin; I miss you ...) That's a shame, really, because a number of years prior it would probably have been a great platform to establish myself and drive visitors to my Patreon account. However, I didn't get my act together until fairly late (which is still debatable if I actually have, given my issue with finding an NFT marketplace I like) and have probably missed my window of opportunity there.
Where, exactly, does that leave us in terms of what is permitted if we didn't want to violate the ToS, photos of puppies and kittens ala "I can haz cheezeburger" or cheemsburbgers? (It will definitely not permit the BDSM pet play versions, to be sure!) Why, then, is the site called Deviant art? It's about as deviant as a Catholic church's Sunday school bake sale, in my opinion! Any of us whom have been to a Christian school for more than a few days know how stiflingly dreary and sterile those are.
Does it offend you (and your delicate lilly-white sensibilities), yeah, dearest Mother Superior? Well, then we must ban and/or remove it post haste! Fucking prudish, repressed and sanctimonious jizz wickets that desperately need a good rogering, the lot of them, I'm sure!
