DAO for soil restoration. Would you contribute?
How about research organization focused on soil revitalization. The function of the organization would be to attract capital and serve as an information hub. Small amount of funding would go towards research and writing published by the DAO, but majority would be distributed to groups focused on soil quality/reclamation in the form of grants or favorable loans.
Without good soil we wont have food (the ocean already depleted). We have destroyed soil in the united states with excessive fertilizations, depletion of organic matter, depletion on microbial ecosystem, and salinization from excessive irrigation. By focusing on ameliorating those issues we simultaneously help restore a new ecology, create job opportunities, and heal the emotional/spiritual connection to our mother. Its economically productive in a foundational sense since soil serves as the foundation to a vibrant ecology which produces things people need such as food, medicine and clothing.
With our creativity, modern scientific technology, and conscious will I am convinced we can solve all the major problems plaguing our society. We cant totally reject technology even though it has propelled itself on the extraction and pillaging of innate resources. Blockchain access enables a larger less restricted capital field to be available to people doing valuable work. The role of the DAO would be to attract capital from this field to support those people. Attract capital by making the case for this type of work and produce quality content. This group would:
- aggregate information about various initiatives and project throughout the country, release reports and other sort of content.
- Fundraise for new projects, grants ect
- attract proposals from people look to start
- Serve as a hub for soil practitioners to support and care for eachother
- Acquire and distribute land for this purpose as a counter balance to the dominations by corporate ag (and bill gates)
A presentation I was watching recently by the creator of the Jonson-su composting method laid out the situation at hand. I am summarizing, but he said that the problem of the future is we need to grow more food on depleted soils with less water. His composting method yielded impressive results in the southwest in multi year trials, and there is some buzz in places such as Vermont with a strong local permaculture influenced agricultural scene. The design allows for air flow without turning the pile and require daily watering. The goal of this method is to raise the Fungal-bacterial ratio in the soil, so the soil is fugally dominate. In the lab this variable proved more predictive of productive plant growth than nutrient availability (the dogma of academic agriculture ) or organic matter. These types of observations and researches help empower people trying to make up for hundreds of years of abuse throughout the world.
