FT Crypto watch Sept 2

Cryptofolk, we love you.  Thanks for opening these love letters every day on the endless cascade of uplifting crypto thoughts that is the stalwart Publish0x.   Mind yourself, we need your help.  Every click testifies to the hope of a world above, not beneath, fiat autocrats. d54f564800dd0ceda097e0e980a5113a0a1541b2dcbc75289d833e178a295c2a.png

Changing the fabric of the FT crypto one click at a time fams!! Let's hit it!

institutional corruption watch!  On three!  336ca7f6acbbd789a72086721772a690665d73b3112950173f2023af46aacb81.pngFreaking Bojo the clown monkey biz.  Enough said.

Here's a sign o the memestonk times!! Sick of the IMF insisting innocent consumers eat energy costs skyrocking due to inept politically caused inflation:  002f3213299f1fb8747cee21222caf8d5f1f6b076ea15037e144c6745c1ba6a9.pngMaybe if everyone just refused to pay.   Finally getting our promised dark winter, we reckon.

Our favorite - the chair of Lukoil, one of the Russian critics of the Ukraine war, committed suicide by jumping out of his hotel window with a pack of ciggies.  Recently Alex from Gazprom killed himself in his garage, also Leonid from Gazprom in his bathroom, and Yuri from Gazprom killed himself in his swimming pool with a gun, as you do. What coincidences!!   OK that's not our tradifi corruption fav, really, that would be the windfall profits going to all non-gas powered power companies.  Plus the windfall TAXES.

Inflation watch around the world: The IMF will print up 1.3 billion for Zambia.  This will help make payments on the 6 billion of bad debt owed to belt and road China white elephant airports & roads.  What could go wrong for inflation??? Can you say misallocated resources preventing creative destruction?? Where is Schumpeter when ya need him!!??!!??

Crypto that SAYS crypto!! Mikey Sailor didn't pay Wash DC taxes!! 288dde7c2b802ad2f445e9ce1f07ce778ec000dcca1521608c602a1395ec8577.pngMikey claimed he lived in Florida, but Mikey bragged to his "confidants."  Ooops.  Avoiding local taxes is an art form in NYC, a sport where the tax man will review your phone records and search your pied a terre apartment looking at the dates in the food in your fridge.  Mikey's worth a billion, he might owe 100 million, we DO know LAWYERS will get paid.

That story was not listed as crypto, so officially NO crypto news in the FT print today. That is freaking tragic.  d2ec71c674679cbe4eebb6747c1ec424a094802ef02583792be901204d3ba246.png

On line - hey it's FRIDAY!! so we get the newsletter!! Yay!!! What will that cover?? - Oh wait, let's guess.  Mikey?? yep, Mikey. TLDR: The FT invokes Jack Grubman, Chuck Prince, Jimmy Cayne & others for dotbomb and crisis infamy.

Mikey is the poster boy for BTC, "the most universally desirable property in space and time." Lordy knows Mikey loves his BTCf7ba619303cf1b90fd9d73eda998e2eca149304923d17bad4952592c61990a10.pngNumber go down, Mikey steps down, sort of.

This week, the taxman cometh.  A Wyoming law firm trolled Facebook, flight logs, etc. and is whistleblowing for cash, Mikey's worth 2 billion and never paid a dime of Washington DC tax.

Mikey's lawyers say BS and will be paid to fight.  AFTER the suit, Mikey tweeted Bitcoin is good energy.  Won't back down, that one.

The REAL story - dear readers know we personally laughed at Jack Grubman.  Jimmy Cayne we have respect for.  A total hardass, can't pull a pin outta his arse with a tractor.  The man was truly a junkyard scrap dealer who built and ran a major wall street firm AND won bridge tournaments, including when he should have been trying to save Bear, lol.  We don't see Mikey going down in massive scandal like Jack and Jimmy at ALL.   How about Mikey Novogratz's LUNA tattoo!!??!

the print version did not even claim Mikey's tax evasion was about crypto, a class move.  The cryptofinance newsletter leads with the bleed, closes with the denial.  Can't lob any FU's, but it is cheezy.  On the other hand, did Mikey REALLY INTERVIEW about avoiding taxes with bitcoin?? Yes, yes he did.  71510ceaba008e7137ea54c94830a97aa517c3815aba6118d233825d44a993ef.png Ouch, Mikey, WTF is WRONG with you!! Mikey!!!  That's just not EVEN true.  Wrong daddy wrongMikey deserves some FU's for that, thanks FT !!

Optifi whoopsie!! This is a good funny.  Optifi is a Solana DEX.  A dev went to upgrade on mainnet, and accidentally said "close program." That's it, it's over, all she wrote.  600K of dev and 30K of client money is locked forevermore, lol!  Clients will be paid back.

the real story:  funny, but no big deal.  We hear the FT reading web3isgoinggreat, rubbing their hands over every nasty no matter how small. 245d682b4f40c9a4e1e0e096badfe59f2b64c16dd702faf5bf9e62d5474d5c2a.png

Crypto.com whoopsie.  Here the FT finally wakes up to a story long kicking around the mighty Publish0x this week, what do you do if Crypto.com sends you 10 million by accident?   Build your dream house seemed to be the answer, lol.  The real story - yeah, whatever.  Citi sent 900 MILLION by accident to Revlon creditors, THAT's STILL in court.

Some Ukrainians busted doing some call center crypto something? Link is written in Russian.   The REAL story:  Here's a big fat FU, FT.  Cowardly to send the link in Russian.  Ack Shu Ally, the call center did no real  crypto, just regular confidence scams.  Number one was spoofing bank phone numbers and asking for credit cards.  #2 was Fake forex trading sites,  also phony "we will return your lost funds for an up-front commission."   That's getting pretty low, FT.  Add a retroactive FU for leading with the measly 30K in client funds that Optifi is paying back anyway.   2 out of Five FU's for your neggy digs on low level faintly crypto stories.  Lazy(&#$(&!!!  When skimming web3isgoinggreat for neggy crypto stories, at least hit the big real ones.  Like Babylon Finance finally shut down after the three million dollar hack this spring. 377069b8c88245e25f9dfd4a2142e5bd9b5c14a5700a92259599932df96a11e2.png

Sammy Fried once said if FTX was the biggest exchange, buying Goldman Sachs was not out of the question.  But he ain't gonna buy Huboi.  That's good news, dear readers know Huboi is one of the few major exchanges that seems to be lying their ass off about volumes.

Congressman Raj from Chicago thinks no central authority able to rewind crypto transactions is a bad thing, plus noone understands.   So he sent nastygrams to the SEC, Treasury, and top exchanges like Binance.

The REAL story:  Not in the FT, Raj ALSO sent letters to the CFTC, and the FTC.  Maybe pretend like you know what yer doing, Raj.  we read Raj's letter to Binance.  It's insane.  Raj wants a copy of (among a million other things) every discussion ever had about how to maybe consider setting up internal rules for anything.  A team could work on this request for ever and ever and still not be done.  This is an example of why total centralized power is nuts.  We want to lob an FU here, judges can't stop us.

but wait, there really IS a lovecoin!! lol ab529c0d4f2ba4862df86082279d6cc2e4002360fe57ebee94ff42233ff82c7c.png

The Merge is maybe this month!   The FT scrambles for negative news!!  In the past three months, a 65% decline in active ETH wallets!! THAT could be negative, probably  not positive!! ETH Futures contracts are at an all time high, mostly shorts!!

Even the FT admits that could be just hedging.  But that doesn't stop the FU's going their way.  The most amazing distributed crypto upgrade ever is (maybe) coming home this month, eliminating ESG concerns for the #2 crypto.  All the FT crypto reporting can do is scrabble for the downside. FU, FT, FU.  Time will tell, but ETH has been kicking arse for years now, we don't see it stopping right quick.

Was there REALLY not a SINGLE feel good crypto story for the ENTIRE WEEK!!??!!?  Judges cut the power to our P.A. system for obscenities.   We don't care, been there before, the horn section and the drums are gonna keep going for a while.

The stock and bond market did the worst in FIFTY YEARS, on the other hand, Nexo is up a bit over a buck from  a coin buyback and bitcoin is right at 20K like always.  Just ONE positive story  to maintain the veneer of neutrality, let alone maybe a crypto writer who likes crypto???  IS THAT TOO #$(*&#@(*$&!! MUCH TO ASK !!! wait, wait, love....e9734206e2bfd93c029d21b9f5dbd9e040612618e9009cf2fb4af59071d22295.png That's the ticket.  Hell, we'll always love you New York.  And crypto, lol. And you, cryptonauts!!!  Y'all most of all.  Stay lucky!!

Peace

Love

Dave

National Merit got this punk rocker to Oberlin, and Wall Street fintech gave up world tours and an NYU MBA. I am a Bitcoin true believer. Bitcoin is deeply revolutionary in a way we always prayed tech would be. Keep the baby Faith!

FT WATCH - the Financial Times on Crypto!!!
FT WATCH - the Financial Times on Crypto!!!

The WSJ turned into USA today - which leaves the FT at the top of the heap for serious financial news! Join us for a semi-serious monitoring of the FUD & hate the FT now showers on crypto. Dear readers know we love that pink newspaper but boy howdy does the FT despise crypto--- it's funny. The old guard always fights the new guard. The FT does it eruditely, with misleading comments, fun graphs, and outright lies (usually) attributed to crypto's greatest enemies!
