What is the THETA Network exactly?

The THETA Network is a blockchain-powered network and their goal is to deliver videos/streams in a decentralized peer-to-peer network. The CDN's or content delivery networks of today leave viewers with low quality video and don't reward viewers. On the THETA Network, they use a decentralized peer-to-peer video delivery system. Often, a lot of people's upload bandwidth is barely used up, and THETA allows viewers to share their excess bandwidth in order to gain TFuel, a gas token on the THETA blockchain. There are many benefits to using a decentralized peer-to-peer video delivery network. Viewers get rewarded for watching videos, which isn't often found on networks such as Twitch or YouTube. Viewers receive higher quality, and smoother videos when watching. CDNs aren't needed to deliver videos, so there is reduced cost of delivery.

Okay, so what is THETA Token then?

THETA is the governance token of the THETA Network. Holders of this token can perform governance tasks within the network. One can also stake their THETA to earn TFuel as a result. You will need a minimum of 1,000 THETA to stake your tokens. There are 1,000,000,000 THETA tokens in circulation, and the total supply is capped at 1,000,000,000 tokens.

What is TFuel, and it's purposes?

TFuel is the gas and utility token of the Theta blockchain. It is rewarded as viewers watch streams on Theta.tv and can be rewarded for staking THETA tokens. Upon the release of Mainnet 3.0, people may stake their TFuel. Currently, you can stake your TFuel using the Theta Edge Node. You need a minimum of 10,000 TFuel to stake, and can stake up to 500,000 TFuel. There is 5,232,675,200 TFuel in circulation.

What is coming in Mainnet 3.0?

While Mainnet 3.0 was expected to launch on April 21st, it has been delayed to June 30th, 2021. In Mainnet 3.0, uptime mining will be introduced. Users will be able to stake their TFuel through Elite Edge Nodes. There will be  2-4% TFuel inflation for uptime mining. There will also be a TFuel burning mechanism. A minimum of 25% of each TFuel transaction to the edge network will be burned at the protocol level. This would reduce the supply of TFuel as the network grows. You can read more about Mainnet 3.0 in the whitepaper linked below.
