How to create a NFT Collection

Today we are going to get into creating schema's and template's. There are a few things you need to know if you are unfamiliar with the NFT minting business.

1) Every NFT you see belongs to a Schema and Template.

2) A Schema is a group of NFT's. Think of it this way. Let's take the Alien Worlds game and their collection "alien.worlds" as an example.

The collection is called "alien.worlds". 

One of their schema's is called "tool.worlds". ALL of their tool NFT's are in that what I call a category. NFT's are setup this way to better categorize NFT's within a collection.

3) A Schema has a set list of attributes that get applied to each NFT within that Schema. So you need to plan out your NFT's before making schema's and templates.

4) A template is basically a NFT. So to take the Alien Worlds example again. Within the tools.worlds schema there is a template called "Standard Drill". It is one type of NFT. Every "Standard Drill" is from that same template. This is usual and makes sense when you go to mint a NFT you just need to select a template you want to mint and it pulls ALL the information for that NFT and mints its as a exact copy of the rest of those that are already minted.

With that out of the way let's get into making some ourselves.

Head back over to your Telos collection on Nefty Blocks and click on "Schemas and templates".

Then click on "+ Create Schema".

You can not create a template without having a Schema to put it into.

You will be given a few options to pick from.

Schema Name : only lowercase letters, numbers 1 through 5 and periods are allowed.

name : the name of your template in later step

img : the image of your template is a later step

You can now add more attributes if you would like.

For me I am adding a attribute called "Promo Number" which will be a Integer. I am also adding a attribute called "Discord Server" which will be a 'string' of text which will be my Discord Server link.

Only when you are absolutely sure your schema is how you want then click on "Create Schema" in the bottom right corner.

Sign the transaction and you will see your Schema.

Now we can go ahead and create a Template. Again a Template is basically a NFT. So click on "+ New template".

You will be given a few options to pick from and wouldn't you know it that it was the options that you created in the Schema step!

Given what I inputted here is what I filled out from it.

Once you have all your fields filled out then click on "Create template". Keep in mind there is no changing these things later. It is the blockchain so it if forever. If you screw up you will need to create a new template.

After you have completed creating the template head back to your collection page. Click on the "Mint NFTs" button.

Then from the drop down menus click on your schema and then select your template.

Towards the bottom it will ask you how many assets you want to mine and what account to mint them to. It will also tell you have much RAM it will cost to mint the NFT's you selected.

For me it will cost 151 B to mint 1 NFT.

For comparison sake I bought 10 TLOS worth of RAM which got me 29.7 kB of RAM.

The math on that means to mint 1 NFT costs me 0.05 TLOS. However I would like to note that prices of RAM will change over time so it may not be the same for you.

And there you go folks. You should now know how to create a NFT on the Telos blockchain.
