I did an experiment in Taco Acryptia!

I have been playing Acryptia since it's inception and I have some feelings towards it.  But since we are in our 3rd Season I wanted to dig into the game. There is a lot of things behind the curtain that is not 100% known to it's players.

For example.. Does tipping more at the end of each level give you any advantage? And if so what advantage? There are runs where I have lost at Floor 3 and it has been so frustrating because I think I am a decent player by now.

That is where my experiment comes into play. I wanted to document the game and do a in depth analysis of it. I decide to document every card I got in each floor and do "MATH".

There are some variables I tried to account for:

1) I would tip 2 gold every level and only 2 gold

2) I would only heal up at the campfire if I was at 11 health or lower.

3) I am human so I could have made a mistake but this is the best I could do.

4) I did not track or take into account Fire damage as I couldn't come up with an easy way to track it accurately.

5) I sold every chest that came up because screw Rug-O.

6) I did NOT take any mulligans.

7) I would NOT buy any cards

8) I have a "Dented Helmet" and a "Rogue's Cloak" equipped.

Run #1 I was about to get to Floor 9 which isn't the best run but it was decent enough to gather some data.

From this data we can see a few things right off the bat.

Assuming we take the damage of all enemies which is 289 Damage it doesn't add up to the Game Over Screen of the Damage Dealt, Damage Taken and Damage Blocked of 322. I wonder how they calculate if say a 4 damage enemy hits a 2 damage shield and you take the extra 2 damage. Something I need to look into more.

The Gold earned was 102 which could make sense because I tried to sell every chest and play every coin but then I also had to sell weapons or shields from time to time. So I did expect it to be higher then my gold card counts.

I dealt 104 Damage out of a possibility of 127 weapon damage cards.

I blocked 101 Damage out of a possibility of 110 damage point shield cards. There were Floors where I ended with unused cards in my 2 slots so that makes sense.

I took another 117 Damage to my Hero.

Let's take Floor 9 to see if I could have passed the level given the cards I was dealt to that point. Maybe I could have sold weapons instead of healths or what have you.

There was 10 Damage worth of Weapons.

There was 15 Damage worth of Shields.

There was 13 Health Potions points.

There was 53 Damage worth of enemies.. We are going to ignore the gold and chests because I could have just sold all of them.

So there was 38 points of damage reduction from cards plus my 13 health points on my hero to give me 51 Damage  protection to the 53 enemy damage. I could have passed Floor 9 if I saved maybe a Superior Exo Barrier to where I died. It was close enough in points where I could have possibly gotten further and maybe if I used a Mulligan I could have gotten further.

Let's look at Run #2

This time I got to Floor 14 and was able to encounter the stronger enemies and Weapons/Shields.

There was 541 Damage from enemies possible.

By my counts:
- 226 weapon damage
-184 shield blockage
-186 health points
=596 points to reduce damage

According to the Game Over screen there was 529 Damage so again it doesn't add up. That is too much variance to just call it a human error too so there must be some other calculation going on that I am not aware of.

The one thing I can think of is that my equipment is skewing my stats a little as I could get damage reduction from my helmet and a new shield could spawn from my body gear.

What is also interesting is that I would have assumed in which ever category that the smallest damage cards would be the most prevalent. But that is not the case.

With Weapons the numbers make sense. I got the most 'Worn Plasma Guns" and the least of "Cannon Ball Tied to a Rope". But then lets look at the Health Potions where I got the most of the "Bandage" but the "Bandage+" has more then "Concoction" and "Strange Mushroom" which seems off.

From doing this mini experiment I gathered a few things.

Having equipment GREATLY increases your chances of getting further down the Floors of Acrytpia. There is some randomness to the cards you get but also there are some common themes where if you wanted to take the time to count cards you probably could really increase your odds. Take a look at the number of Enemies per level.

Levels 1 through 5 there was 13 enemy cards each Floor. And then from Floors 6 though 13 (probably further) there were more often then not 23 enemy cards. That is the biggest take away for me personally. It is always annoying to get 4 enemy cards as your last cards on a floor but if I am counting cards I can know a head of time how many are left.

Was this helpful to anyone else but me? ;)
