Today our adventure continues. I received my payout from Publish0x of my $OP and so now it's time to swap it for something that I want. If you read my last article I didn't have many options because I want to swap using a service that is not KYC and also can swap to 1 of 3 cryptos (BTC, ETH or WAX). I decided on WAX because I want to put that crypto to use and the BTC or ETH I would just HODL and where is the fun in that?
One thing I would like to mention is that I appreciate the fact that Crypto can be decentralized and autonomous because on New Years Eve I got my payout and on New Years day I am going to swap it. I don't have to look to see if the banks are open or exchanges are open because of Holidays. It just works 24/7.
First things first, head over to StealthEX at https://stealthex.io/.
I have 9.9 $OP I want to swap but for the sake of this being my first go at it I am going to swap 9.5 (to have a little breather room for gas).
Now you can enter what address you want your tokens delivered too after they are swapped. Also you can put in a Refund address so that if anything goes wrong during the swapping your original tokens can be returned to you.
You need to agree to their terms and off we go.
Now you are given an address to send your tokens to. The exchange will wait until that exact amount is sent to that exact address and then will begin the swapping.
So I went over to Ledger where my $OP were and went to send them to the address provided. And lo and behold I need Ethereum to send $OP. Which with my limited knowledge of $OP seems asinine. I know its a layer 2 on Ethereum but maybe I just understand then the point of $OP if I still have to pay fees in Ethereum.
Well either way I need ETH because what I did was in Ledger I searched for Optimisim to create an account and used that address. Turns out that it creates a new wallet address separate from my Ethereum address (which I like) but I wish you could pay the gas fees with ETH I had in my other accounts but same wallet. Guess not. So now I have to send ETH from my ETH account to my OP account and pay $1.05 in gas fees for that so yay me lol
And you know what happened people? The ETH was sent to the same damn address. This is going to be a little tricky without showing you all my addresses and I just rather not so your going to have to trust that I am not an idiot okay?
I sent my ETH to the same address (OP Mainnet account) on Ledger that Publish0x sent me my $OP. This account.
And you know where my ETH ended up? Back in the same ETH address that I sent them from.
Fuck me. Now I know what your thinking... TPL you just sent it to the wrong address. But I didn't that's the crazy part. The one thought I had was to send the $OP to my ETH address but there are 2 problems with that.
1) I don't have any ETH apparently to cover the gas fees (my initial problem)
2) I am afraid it will send back to where it came from cause I guess that's a Ledger thing to do now..
So here I am now. I have my $OP waiting to be swapped. I have a way to swap it for WAX. I have the ETH to cover the gas fees. But I have no way to pay for the ETH gas fees for some reason.
Now I went to Ledger for help and this is what they told me:
I apologize to anyone who was waiting on the results of my test but I hope you have all learned from me to not make this mistake. I will continue to work on this and when I have a solution I will be sure to let you all know.
