Before the launch of Arcana collection the strongest part of my portfolio was Chaos set.
As Chaos set moves out of Modern format I will have to re-build my portfolio practically from scratch as I never felt the need to build up my Rebellion cards as I had got used to of playing with Chaos and I felt overall Chaos cards were more value for money compared to Rebellion.
Due to this approach now I am in a situation that I have limited Rebellion cards and I have just opened a few Arcana packs so hardly anything in Arcana.
I am not going to hurry into anything as I have been playing Splinterlands for over 5 years so I know it is important to be patient and not do anything rash specially when I have a long term focus.
Most Crucial Step- Getting the Summoners!
From my experience of building my portfolio for Untamed, then Chaos and briefly for Rebellion, what I have come to realise is that picking good summoners and levelling them up is the most critical part of having a strong collection.
No matter how many good levelled up legendary cards you may have they will be useless if you don’t have the right level of summoners to be able to use them.
- What Summoners Do I Have?
Before starting to buy any new summoners it is important to assess which summoners do I already have in Rebellion set. Like I said earlier that I did not pick up too many packs of Rebellion and later picked up only a few cards so my Summoner power is very restricted.
The only good part is that from the few packs I opened I managed to get summoners to cover most of the elements and as Rebellion introduced the concept of 1 summoner allowing 2 elements now I realise how helpful that is.
The 2 key challenges I will have to work on at the earliest is:
- Level up my Summoners - Most of my summoners are at Level 1 so they will not be of use once I try to play in higher leagues above Silver. Good that I was lucky to get one gold foil Level 3 summoner that supports Death and Fire elements so at least I will be able to play right now in Bronze league without embarrassing myself.
- Get a Dragon Summoner- I notice my weak point now is not having any Dragon summoner at all. I need to fix it first as we know Dragons are some of the most powerful cards in the game and without a summoner I will never be able to use them.
- Which Summoners Do I Need?
When I look at the Arcana summoners in the market I notice that they are similar to the Chaos summoners as they cost 4 mana each and are all Rare except for Dragon element where the summoner is Legendary.
The summoners are a bit expensive at the moment with all of them around $2 so I will wait for a bit for them to come closer to the $1 mark and then start picking them up. Till then I will manage with the Rebellion summoners I have.
- What Level of Summoners Should I Target?
The strategy I used on chaos was to select 3 elements and level up the rare summoners to level 6 and for remaining elements get the summoners to Level 4 to Level 5 depending on the bargains I find in the market.
I will try to achieve the same with Arcana but it will take time as summoners are quite expensive right now and it will take time to gather sufficient funds to have a good collection.
Friendly Gesture from the Community
I would like to end this post by sharing something that brightened up my day.
I was discussing with the Splintelrands community on Discord about how I was planning to start playing again and build my Arcana collection from scratch.
A guy who I never interacted with before sent me a gold foil Arcana card which looks pretty useful.
This reminded me how Splinterlands community is different from other groups and why I have stuck around for so many years here despite having my share of ups and downs.
