Every year gamers spend over 100 billion dollars to purchase items for free-to-play games like Fortnight and League of Legends. Unfortunately, due to the fact that these items are stored on a centralized database, players do not truly own them.

This means that gamer's items can be deleted, duplicated, or revoked at will by the developer. As well, players cannot trade their items freely in a transparent marketplace, hindering in-game economic activity and opening the possibility of fraud.

The Enjin team is using the trustlessness of the Ethereum blockchain to solve these problems. They aim to make blockchain-based games easier for both gamers and developers.

They have released a software development kit (SDK) that allows developers to create blockchain-based games without having to deal with the complexity of interacting with the Ethereum blockchain. 

Additionally, they have released a secure mobile wallet in which gamers can store their in-game characters and items. Players link their mobile wallet to the game and then their items become available for use.

There are currently dozens of games being developed using the Enjin framework, and I'll cover seven of them here. This is a continuation of a previous post, in which I reviewed eight other Enjin-based games that are in development.

Dissolution

Dissolution is a first-person shooter, massive multiplayer online role-playing game, set in the year 2418. Players compete for tokenized resources and territory as they face off in a battle between humans and rogue artificial intelligence. 

One rare token in particular is called the Dissolution Founders Token (DFT), which is limited in supply. Those who hold it can earn more in-game money and get a 15% discount on future Dissolution sales. 

The game is currently in the pre-alpha release stage and can be played on Steam. You can check the game's roadmap/progress on Trello.

Dyverse

In Dyverse you collect and trade unique blockchain-based 3D characters called "Kydys", place them into augmented reality (AR) mobile apps, and use them to deliver cute little messages to family and friends.

Kydys can be bred, or "synthesized", by combining the energy of two other Kydys together. They are also available for purchase on the marketplace using the Metamask browser extension.

The developers charge a 5% commission rate on all sales and synthesis transactions. They also periodically sell collectible generation 0 Kydys on the marketplace to raise funding for the game.

Forest Knight

Brought to you by Chrono Games out of Hamburg, Germany, Forest Knight is a mobile turn-based strategy game. Players build a team and explore the fantasy world of "Chronville". Many of the in-game items and characters are unique tokens, which can be traded freely on open marketplaces such as EnjinX.

Forest Knight also has a rare founders token (MFT). Holders of the token are entitled to special airdropped items from the developer. For example, the last airdrop was a special Christmas Santa ring, which players could display on their avatars.

Once the game has been monetized, the developer plans to open it up to player vs. player battles, in which gamers can compete for blockchain-based rewards from the realm's king.

Forgotten Artifacts

Forgotten Artifacts, designed by "one man army" Cliff Cawley, is an adventure game where you explore undiscovered lands and find rare hidden artifacts. Some artifacts increase players' strength, while others are purely for aesthetic purposes. 

This game already supports a number of "multiverse" items, such as dragons and swords that are usable across a number of other Enjin-based games. Each game represents multiverse items in their own unique way.

The game is currently in pre-alpha development. All items that can be purchased in the shop go towards development costs.

Kingdom Karnage

Kingdom Karnage is a free to play trading card game with animated turn based combat. Both campaign and player vs. player modes are available.

There are two versions of the game - one regular, and one Enjin-based. All cards in the Enjin-based game are backed by EnjinCoin (ENJ) and can be "melted" to extract the ENJ that is backing them.

Makerverse

Makerverse Founder Patrick Mockridge describes Makerverse as a "modern-day decentralized IKEA of open-source engineering IP".

Their objective is to create a simulated 3D engineering space with realistic physics where engineers and enthusiasts of all levels can get involved in robotics and sell their intellectual property on an immutable blockchain.

Makerverse is being designed with the Unity Engine and will feature a virtual engineering workshop where players can collaborate together with their simulated robots. Players will be able to store their parts and engineering designs in the Enjin mobile wallet, as well as trade them with others on the open marketplace.

Nestables

As per their website, "Nestables will allow gamers to collect, trade and breed 3D ‘Cubes’, each of which has their own unique personality and physical traits."  Each Cube is a unique token backed by ENJ.

You can interact with your Cubes by designing and decorating their nests, task them with collecting resources to build homes and expand their nest, or let them relax and play. Cubes can also be bred, and their offspring inherit the physical and personality traits of their parents.

Conclusion

The developers behind these games are brave pioneers, venturing into the uncharted territory of blockchain gaming. So far, they've managed to attract small communities who are eager to test out and try these new features. When the players themselves are invested in the game, it makes word-of-mouth advertising much easier, and could lead to massive network effects.

Once you actually download the Enjin wallet, purchase some items, verify their rarity on the blockchain, and realize that you will own them forever, the concept becomes all the more exciting. I think that it's only a matter of time before more gamers catch on to this trend.
