SPLINTERLANDS Weekly Share Your Battle: Dragons: "Ettin Spearman comes in Clutch"

Dragons Unite

This season, I've been slowly buying Tallevor in order to upgrade to a Level 2! More on that later, as it will involve my new referrals in the future! But what a perfect Weekly Challenge for me to utilize!! Unfortunately I ended up choosing a battle with Drake instead.

Dragons are powerful cards with the unique ability to be paired with any other single Splinter, meaning you could go Death Dragons, Fire Dragons, etc. This advantage is balanced with the increased cost of Dragon Summoners!

A Rare Summoner, Drake of Arnak gives +1 Armor at 4 cost.

This one will be a bit different from other Share Your battles, I'll go more in-depth of my lineup, cards, and their costs!

The Battle Ahead

The Mages of Alric vs the Snipers of Arnak

The modifiers were 32 Mana & Blast

I love battles where I expected to lose, so this one took the cake this time.

My Lineup:

Drake of Arnak: For +1 Armor, he felt like a better choice than Tallevor here, and I was probably right, as the few moments where Armor saved my Cerberus and Serpentine Spy are definitely what won me this battle. I chose +1 Armor largely due to the fact that range and melee blast would be cancelled out by this 1 armor for the first turn. That only ended up working for his Position 1 card.

Cerberus in Position 1: My Cerberus tanked the enemy like a champ, eating a massive 4 magic attack from Phantom immediately
Grumpy Dwarf in Position 2: He did literally nothing this entire battle, a horrible choice, but he saved my Serpentine Spy from getting instantly wiped.
Serpentine Spy in Position 3: This was a small mistake on my part, and I wanted to have Goblin Shaman in position 3, actually.
Goblin Shaman in Position 4: Goblin Shaman at level 3 is so, so useful.
Pyromaniac in Position 5: My heavy backline attacker and one of the main reasons I won this matchup, he ate through a solid chunk of damage immediately!
Ettin Spearman in Position 6: The game winning attack was Ettin Spearman landing his attack on not ONE faster card with Evasion, but TWO faster cards with evasion. Seriously, hands down MVP for not fumbling that.

Here are my enemies cards:

Alric Stormbringer: AKA literally the worst card to fight against with Drake of Arnak.

Position 1: Serpent of Eld: With evasion, high speed, armor, and decent health, any one of my cards could've missed on this guy and I would've lost.
Position 2: Phantom of the Abyss: One of the most evasive cards in the game. ANOTHER situation where I likely could've missed with every single attack.
Position 3: Sea Genie, a solid magic attacker, this positioning almost caused me to lose the matchup
Position 4: Medusa, if she had been where Ice Pixie was, would have also caused me to lose this matchup.
Position 5: Ice Pixie, which let my Pyromaniac pick her off fast.
Position 6: Furious Chicken, who served as a poor meat shield, but still a meat shield

Reflection

This was a lucky battle on my part. Insanely lucky. There were so many situations where I could have, and should have easily missed. In particular, Ettin Spearman's final attack and subsequent blast attack could have both easily missed. This makes him the MVP in my book, for not completely tossing the match. Having pierce helped him finish off Eld as well.

That being said, Cerberus and Pyromaniac also both worked beautifully in this matchup.

Sorry Grumpy Dwarf but you weren't much better than a Furious Chicken would have been.
