Splinterlands: An Analysis of Cave Slugs (Bronze - Gold)

Ah the Cave Slugs. They're a couple of fungi. Hang out with them and munch on some rats. Don't mind their incandescent glow, it's probably radiation or something.

Here, I will go over Cave Slugs in a multitude of levels and formats, and go over my opinion of them in each league. To keep it simple, I will be dividing it into Bronze, Silver, and Gold league, and I will mention the upper and lower levels for that league. I will not go into Diamond, as I am not able to reach that rank and cannot really talk about how it would do in that area.

Check him out in all his Level 1 Glory below:

Bronze League (Level 1-3)

As you can see from the above, Level 1 Cave Slugs has Opportunity, 2 Melee, 1 Speed, and 4 Health. Upon reaching Level 2, it will gain 1 additional health, and, at Level 3, it gains 1 additional melee.

Obviously, Level 3 is when Cave Slugs gains the most momentum, becoming a very dangerous threat when paired with Silvershield Knight. His biggest weakness is that he has 1 speed, making him very likely to miss, and easily overwhelmed by a rush of enemies.

Position & Ideal Modifiers

The best modifiers for Cave Slug are Melee Only, & Reverse Speed This does not change for a while. Actually, it doesn't change at all!

As an Opportunity Attacker with a significant amount of health compared to other Opportunity Attacker's, he is a tanky choice for a backline attacker, and can be placed anywhere in a lineup. I believe he works best closer to the back, unless you are using a Ranged heavy team, in which case he will act as a buffer if you place him closer to the front.

Ideal Summoner

Assuming you're in Bronze league, you likely don't have easy access to the higher, more powerful summoners. As such, I will be focusing on the Rare Summoners. Out of the three, I believe that Tyrus' +1 Armor is the most effective for Cave Slug specifically, as it allows him to survive one melee attack's damage, even if it's above 1 damage! This will give him more chances to do what he does best: Eat away the competition.

Silver League (Level 3-5)

At Level 4, he gains +1 Speed, and then at Level 5, he gains +1 Health, making him slightly tankier, and slightly worse in Reverse Speed line ups, but slightly better in all other situations. This also helps with the inevitable misses he has from Level 1-3.

Position & Ideal Modifiers

No Change, except now he is slightly less valuable in Reverse Speed and slightly more valuable in all other formats.

Ideal Summoners

No Change. Tyrus still offers the biggest benefit to this little monster slug. That being said, he of course synergizes well with all of the Light Splinter Rares, and there's no issue switching between them. Lorna will do better in Magic battles, Mother Khala is a sort of 'balanced' middle ground.

Gold League (Level 5-8)

Cave%20Slug_lv8.png
In Gold League, you have an interesting choice: At Level 6, Cave Slugs Loses 1 HP, 1 Speed, and Gains Scavenger, which increases his health by 1 after every kill. Then, Level 7 grants him +1 Speed, and Level 8 Grants him that 1 HP back. This lets you decide if you'd rather have a slower attacker for Reverse Speed rounds, or a more bulky attacker for other rounds.

Position & Ideal Modifiers

When paired with Khana, he can be an effective choice to use in Poison or Earthquake rounds to heal quickly, and survive the earthquake longer. (1 battle offers a potential for 11 additional health afterall) This is not possible without Scavenger, and so it is the only thing that's worth mentioning in this rank.

Ideal Summoner

As a Gold player, you likely can afford, or have access to legendary summoners, and so... the ideal summoner for Cave Slug is Chanseus, who can heal this monstrosity, allowing it to reek havoc from the back lines and stay alive long enough to make short work of its enemies.

Example Battle: Silver

I'm currently in Silver this season, so here's an example battle of Cave Slug, if you've seen my Share Your Battle post, it is the same battle, so I will save you a click, if not, check it out and see him decimate the backline.
