The wild wild west of crypto just found the McDonald's Instagram account to promote a scam coin dubbed Grimace on Solana, pumped it so hard that it reached $20 million marketcap in minutes. It achieved it top in a matter of minutes, but, you know what, it dumped even more hard than it pumped back to $1 million in matter of seconds.
People who interacted with the McDonald's Instagram account and decided to invest on it, got rugged and lost savings of their lives, and this it what happens when people don't do due diligence and don't get hyped by a random account that spread crypto on Instagram.
The fever of memecoins is real and if people don't take precautions online would be knocked on this wild west of crypto. Scammers will usually hack famous accounts and promote shit coins to grab easy and fast money. By the way, the hackers who got the control of the McDonald's instagram even made a hold statement "thank you for the $700,000" mentioning the profit that they made with their enterprise.
This is not the first time hackers hot control of a famous account to promote or steal crypto. Years back the Bill Gates account was hacked on X to get Bitcoin from his followers and somehow people sent it to the hackers address. Here is where I don't understand why people are so easily convinced by famous accounts and still send them funds! Remember:
