If you were to combine the epic game worlds of the classic Mario platformers with the art-style and humor of the Adventure Time television show, The Adventure Pals is essentially what you'd get. Because that's essentially what this is. And it's great!
If not my favorite platform game ever, it's certainly right up there. A casual platformer for the most part (gets a little trickier on the final levels - as you might expect). The Adventure Pals is the perfect platformer for those who are turned off by "Hardcore" platformers. If those kind of games are something you avoid because dying hundreds of times while trying to precisely perfect a single wall jump, or (a little more understandably, but still annoying) defeat that end of level boss, is not your cup-of-tea, The Adventure Pals might be more your style. For the most part it's not an overly challenging game, which, devoid of frustration as it is, leaves you plenty of room to just work your way through the levels and enjoy the ride, the variety of colorful and often genuinely funny characters, the memes, the references, and of course - the cupcakes.
It's a fairly lengthy game, 10-15 hours to complete or so, which makes it pretty good value for money, and it never gets boring, with the game introducing new power-ups, abilities, and creatures to battle as you progress, which keeps it fresh. And while arguably the difficulty increase in the final few levels undoes some of what was achieved most of the way through in creating a platformer for the more casual player, by that point you should have honed your skills enough so that it doesn't become too annoying, and will make you feel like you've earned it, once you finally complete the game and get to enjoy the great ending...
