The Brave Browser is a privacy focused web browser built using the chromium engine. Recently, Brave launched a cryptocurrency wallet where users can store the cryptocurrency Ether and ERC20 tokens. Other cryptocurrencies are not supported at the moment. This tutorial will explain to you, how to create a brave cryptocurrency wallet.
First of all, you need to start the Brave Browser in your computer. If you don't have Brave installed, you can download it from here. If you have successfully installed the browser, then open it by clicking the desktop shortcut. After that, you will need to navigate to the settings page and enable the crypto wallet.
Click on the menu button (on the top right corner) to show the main menu in Brave and then click on the "Settings" button. This will take you to the settings homepage. This process is visually presented in the screenshot below.
On the settings page, click on the "Extensions" button on the left menu and you will see the option to enable "Crypto Wallets". Enable it from there as shown below.
You may also do this by visiting the page brave://settings/extensions
After the wallet is enabled, visit the wallet page by selecting "Crypto Wallets" from the menu on top left. You may also do this by visiting the URL brave://wallet/
If you don't have the wallet set up then it will open with a message saying:
Crypto Wallets lets you work with cryptocurrency and related assets in Brave. Crypto Wallets supports Ethereum tokens like ETH and BAT, as well as collectibles, and lets you work with Ðapps and other smart contracts. ...
Only use Crypto Wallets if you accept that you alone are responsible for all risk associated with this use, and that Brave Software bears no responsibility or liability for any losses including incidental or consequential losses you might suffer as a result of this use. All of this is completely separate from Brave Rewards. ...
It is extremely important to understand this. If you make a mistake and lose access to your tokens, Brave won't be responsible for that. If you have prior experience with using other cryptocurrency wallets, you probably already understand this.
If you are new to the crypto world, you should learn a little more about ethereum, cryptocurrency and blockchain before attempting to create a new wallet. You can learn more about how bitcoin works in this video. This video explains the same concept in simpler language. I want to again warn you that mistakes can be fatal and cause significant loss of assets in the cryptocurrency world. You are likely to receive messages from "investment agents" on Telegram, WhatsApp etc. who will try to scam you. Be very careful about where you put your money.
If you are ready to enter the cryptocurrency world, click the "I understand" button to get started. This will take you to a page that will ask you about the type of wallet you want. Now, click the create button as shown below:
Clicking create will take you to a new page that will ask you for a password. Make sure to use a password that is at least 8 characters. I would recommend using a password of 12 character or more. Click on the create button below the password field.
This will take you to a new page containing the "Secret Backup Phrase".
Click on the gray button that says "click here to reveal secret words". You will see 24 random words there. These words are the key to your wallet. You must keep them safe or else you will lose your funds. If a hacker gains access to your secret words, he can steal your cryptocurrencies you store on the brave wallet.
Also, you will lose access to your crypto assets if you forget the secret words. This is why it is very important to keep them safe. Remember to write them down in correct order. The ideal way to backup is to write them in a piece of paper and keeping that in a safe place. Then click "Next" and enter the 24 words in correct order.
Now, click "Confirm" at the bottom. You should receive a message congratulating you. Then click "All Done" to finish the process. Now your wallet is ready for use. You can login to your wallet by visiting chrome://wallet/.
