I despise little catch phrases and puns pawned off as profound wisdom. To me, it's cheap and easy to play with words to make something sound cute which ultimately has little – if any – substantial meaning or application in our lives. That being said,...

"Responsibly," and "mindfully." If I don't pay attention to the possible results of my behavior at the outermost reaches of time, then even parenting can become an example of the very irresponsibility in which I don't want my child to engage. The mindfulness is the key to keeping up with the responsibility.

What I have found is that, in situations like this, we experience a moment of fission. I call it a "primal break." There is a schism that occurs when the animal (the body) takes over the task of surviving, putting the conscious mind in a momentary time-out. It's that moment wherein if you think, you die. Your body knows this moment better than you do. So it takes over. In some scenarios, an individual in a life-or-death situation might be known to scream out in terror of their own actions during the event. I usually describe this as the conscious mind screaming out for the animal to stop its attack on the threat. Imagine you and a very close friend walk hand in hand through an occupation. Your friend knows the risks better than you do, but you never consider it because you two grew up together. Suddenly, there is a threat to your lives. You don't know what to do, but your friend does. You keep trying to think your way through the scenario, but your friend finally lets go of your hand and shoves you to the ground to confront the threat. Now you find yourself watching this friend whom you have known since birth become a violent monster that cannot be leashed or stopped as it pours moment after eternal moment of hellish carnage onto the threat. All you can do is watch in horror, and maybe scream. Now that the threat is neutralized, your friend turns to you with his hand extended. You are timid in taking it. As you continue through your job, you always keep a suspicious eye on your friend, always remembering what he did, always ready at a moment's notice to back away from him, never able to reconcile what he did with the child you once knew. Now, you live in the world of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This is how one snaps.

Fear, The Living Cloak

Often we are deceived by fear.I have found that fear does not tell us that we are on the right path, and here's why I think this. Quite often, we conflate fear (the state) and anxiety with doubt. This is a very different state. When we are facing something of which we are unsure, we often find ourselves facing an unpaved path with Fear (the creature) standing beside us whispering in our ear. We may think that Fear is telling us to proceed, but no. He is telling us to abate. When we proceed despite our fears, that is not a result of Fear spurring us on, but of us associating fear with defiance. It is defiance (however small) that motivates us forward down a path. Fear wears many masks, he is a deceiver. He can tell you he is your friend while he paralyzes and consumes you. When we think that the "presence of fear" is indicative of our accuracy, we exhibit an association: timidity = accuracy. Then we tell ourselves that fear points us in the right direction, when the reality is that our defiance of that fear is what makes us look where Fear tries to discourage.

I certainly can understand where you're coming from. But, that is quite different from what I was talking about. I am also quite introverted (I think the term to describe me is, "extroverted introvert"), and - yes - it is a matter of conditioning. What I am referring to here in this post has more to do with deception than conditioning. If I want to recondition myself to be more adaptable in social settings, then I expose myself voluntarily to those scenarios. However, what I am referring to here is a matter of presenting a deliberate fiction for the world to believe of me. Stay tuned, and you will be better able to get what I'm talking about.
