Hope of the Father, part three

A Thousand Generations are Begun

I mentioned earlier that I was going to expand on two scriptures that were mentioned in Sins of the Father. Here's the other one. In Exodus 20:6 (CSB), God describes himself as “showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commands.” So what happens when I teach my children the values of Honor, wisdom, Truth, knowledge, compassion, and decency through the principles of patience, observation, adaptation, communication, and experience? My children become the first of a thousand generations, and one man can become the father of a nation's worth of honorable people. One man can make a difference.

I do not identify with past failures and fallacies. I do not identify with past malice or regrets. I do not identify with the sins of my father. I am a man who stands on his own with his own opportunity to make a difference – where it actually counts. Therein lies my hope. The hope of the father lies in the ability to make the decision to cut off the future from the past. “Abijah committed all the sins his father had done before him.”

When the sins of the father are visited upon the subsequent generations, that visitation ends at the fourth (according to Exodus 20:5). My generation is the fifth generation from the fatherless root of narcissism within the Wood family. It is of interest to me that, in keeping with the scriptures referenced in Sins of the Father, my family has remained blind to the progression of narcissism, its root in Lucifer's grandiosity, and the insidiousness with which it permeates the mind and convinces it to idolize the self by blinding the mind to the self. As such, it is my generation that is the first since the self-idolization began to place value on anything other than perpetual destructive personal gain. I stand at the start of a thousand generations.

This is not to say that anyone that falls within the four generations are doomed and have no hope. On the contrary, it still falls to the individual to stand at the beginning of a thousand generations. Where there is life, there is hope. So long as one is aware of the choices that lay before them, they are in a position to make those choices.
